This is a two piece, a skirt and a jacket.  What’s neat is that they have adjustable ties that make it fit better.

The Skirt

From what I can see of the skirt, it looks like it would hit near the ankle, which is well within the guidelines that we generally keep.  It looks like it has plenty of room, and it’s opaque.

The Jacket

The jacket has a nice high neckline,and it has short sleeves.  No big issues there.

Is this red a problem?  That’s left as an exercise for the reader!

justagirl4god: Happy couple alert! :) I love this wedding dress – it is so beautiful, but the dress does not draw attention to itself, it draws the attention to this bride’s face, not her body. The dress has a great neckline which is modest. The groom here is modest too – classic black suit is great, and again does not draw attention to the clothing, but to the person wearing them. Modest!

MInTheGap: The dress has a nice, high neckline with not a lot showing. The groom’s vest doesn’t cover all of his shirt (a tad sloppy?) but both are modest!

Is This Modest?

MInTheGap: They say that only real men can wear pink, but a pink tie? I’m not sure. White is a color that you should avoid. The fact that there’s water in the background means that he could get wet and the suit would be translucent.

In any case, at least the girl with him is wearing a more sensible color. If only it came up a little higher on top.

Foy: I’m not a big fan of the lace or lines on her dress. It draws undue                   attention to her chest and waist.

MInTheGap: It’s a nice jacket and slacks combination, but I’m not sure what that pose says. I mean, the pose and the fact that one part of his spiky hair is sticking straight up distracts me. I’d prefer one of the other shots he has where he’s standing up.

Foy: I’m not a girl, so I have a hard time judging male modesty. But I’d wonder about the open shirt near the top. Other than that and the hair, it seems fine.

MInTheGap: He has a classic look, and actually looks comfortable in the suit. Her dress is an appropriate length, but I feel the front comes too far down. I’m going borderline.

Erin: The man looks great…it is hard to go wrong with a good-fitting suit. However, the lady’s dress is too low, I don’t think spaghetti straps are appropriate outside the house, and I think the dress is a bit form-fitting around the hips.

MInTheGap: Though this shot is a little dark, this outfit (or what we can see of it) does look modest– even though it has a V-neck (imagine that).

Kristin:Even though she’s mostly covered, I keep feeling like my eyes are going to that button in the center of her jacket and all of the gathering around it from being too tight. If the shirt underneath comes up high enough she’d be better off leaving the jacket open, but from what I can tell it looks like the undershirt is probably low cut as well. Her makeup is VERY heavy as well! I’m going to go with Slightly Immodest here.

A generation ago it was common that Sunday was the day that you put on your “Sunday Best.”  Your common clothes would not do, and you had to be just so.

Today, “just as I am” is more than a song of invitation, it’s extent of the thought that some put into what they’ll wear.  Even those that preach the Word are finding how much they can get away with not dressing in a shirt and tie.

Sometime in the past generation, the emphasis was placed on the love of God and, I believe, in attempt to appeal to more people the church decided it had to make church appeal to the masses.

Now, it’s gotten to the point that some believe that those that would dress up—wear a skirt or a tie—are legalistic.

Just like some can view those that choose to be modest as legalistic (and some are, don’t get me wrong), most of the time it comes from a heart that desires to please God rather than a desire to submit to a series of rules.

Why I Dress Up

You see, if I were just going to a social club I’d have no problem going casual.  When I go to work, I am asked to dress business casual.  If I were to go visit the President of the United States, I’d wear a suit.  So, why is it ok for me to go to a house of worship to worship the King of Kings dressed in the same clothes I would wear to do housework?

If the whole point of going to church is to worship God, how we dress should reflect it.  In times past people had to bring their best sacrifice to the temple.  They had to bring their best clothing to the temple.  They feared God.

I understand that God loves us as we are.  I understand that I can pray and worship God wherever I am and whatever I’m dressed in.  However, this hasn’t changed from the Old Testament. God has always been there, and yet when people are joining together for the express purpose of worship, why should they decide to dress down for it?

I dress up because I always have—it’s a way I show respect for the Lord—and because it helps to keep my mind focus on things above.  How about you?
