But what about me? And what about you? Are we guilty?

In my twenties, I attended an independent Baptist church that had people of different “races” (skin color). I prayed to God to help me see His heart for black people. I wanted to know how He viewed different colored people and also why He made different races/skin color. So I knelt by my sofa and listened to Him.

Have you ever so wanted to know God’s heart that you stop everything to seek Him? Has anything stirred you so deeply that you were determined to not go one more minute without knowing God’s heart and therefore you sought to hear from Him? I have. And as I look back on my life, these are the landmark times of faith and growth.

God always meets me in my genuine point of need!

As I pressed my face into the cushion of the sofa, I heard God tell me that He sees

• the heart/soul of people, and that
•  we all bleed red blood, and that
• we are all His children.
• The same Holy Spirit enters ALL people!

That really shaped my view of skin color! Since I try, in everything, to have God’s view and to treat people the way God does, I allowed His insight to help define my thoughts and actions.

Here is a cute top that is dressy and looks comfortable too. The waist is fitted, so that might be an issue for some, but I think overall it is modest.

When the sleeves are big like this, I like to wear a tank or cami underneath of the same color so nothing shows when I raise my arms.

The necklace is cute and eye catching, but I try to avoid necklaces that are too long because they draw eyes away from my face.

I really like the sleeves because they are pretty long, yet they are loose enough that it wouldn’t be too warm on a hot day.

This top can be dressed up or down. With a pair of jeans or a casual skirt, it would be comfortable for every day. With black pants or skirt like in the picture, it’s dressy enough for a more formal occasion.

This is a cute casual outfit, great for every day, but the heels help dress it up a little and keep it from looking too casual.

The purple top is high cut and not too tight, which is a good thing.  It might be better if she didn’t tuck the it in the front only, as it draws attention to the legs more.

Her jeans look pretty tight, and since they are skinny jeans, they are form fitting. These types of jeans aren’t always modest on all body types, so be aware of that. If she wore a longer top, this outfit would be more modest, but it would still be stylish and comfortable.

Soft Surroundings has some really great clothes that it seems like it would feel great to wear.  This dress is no exception.

The Delphine Dress also comes in black, and it meets our modest criteria—it’s long, it has wide straps and it does not come down too far in the front.  It could even be paired with an under layer (maybe a turtleneck?) to be a tad warmer!

Do you like the crinkled type look?  What type of environment could you see yourself wearing this type of dress?

I don’t think it’s a casual dress, but is it a formal?

Of the times that are available from Union28, this is as close to the line that they get as far as modesty. 

The message, great as always.  The location of that message—yeah, that might be a problem because of the other things…

The straps are on the border of being too small, as well as the depth of the shirt.

However, I can definitely see this as something that’s worn in the home in the summer or something like that.

So, it’s not enough for me to say not to buy this shirt, but I would not wear this in public!

This is probably one of the most expensive dresses at The Virtuous Closet, but that comes with a reason.  This dress is Jeweled!

That’s right, the heavy satiny fabric (perfect for formal attire) comes with jewels made right into it—and that’s where my attention goes first.

Yes, the satin does make it a bit shiny, and we’ve talked about it before.  The length is fine, the neckline and sleeves are fine, but what about the placement of those jewels?  Do you think it presents a problem?

My personal opinion is that formal wear can be a bit different because of context.  In that case, this probably is fine—but I know that some of you might have a different perspective!

Here’s a long dress with a bit of flair.  I like the length, as it seems that it would be down past the knees.  The shoulders are covered and there’s a good neckline.

What makes this dress feminine are the bows in front, which could draw attention to the bust, but works for this dress.

It is one solid color, but I like what the site suggests as far as pairing it with a cardigan for a nice overall look.

The other thing tat draws my attention is the pattern above the waist.  I guess I’d have to see it on someone to see if this draws attention to the bust.

Black is always a striking color, and the text on top of this shirt make it stand out the more.  “Oh How He Loves” reminds me of the chorus “Oh How He Loves You and Me” – though I could see how you’d have to explain who “He” is.

I wonder about the positioning of the word “LOVES” on this shirt, and the lower text.  Since text on a shirt is inviting someone to read it, I wonder if you’d find people looking at your mid section, or coming up to you and looking at your waistline to read the fine print.

Perhaps this text should have been a bit higher?

They call this a little black dress—but there’s a lot to love here.

The neckline is a V, but not a deep one, so it shouldn’t pose the normal V-neck issues.  The sleeves are short, which is fine.

The length goes down below the knee, which is a good length, but presents modesty issues when sitting and standing—keep the knees together.

I don’t think that the belt accent comes with the dress, but it works well and could also be paired with the scarf.

What do you think of black dresses?  Only for funerals, or are they a popular part of your wardrobe?

Here’s a Black Denim skirt up for review.  The length is great, coming down to mid-calf…  I’d almost call this lower calf.  The bottom flairs out, and it looks like it has a little wear at the knees.

The description says that it has a modest back slit—slits are always something of which you should always take note.

The decorative portion is nice, and draws the attention lower.  The skirt also has pockets.

About the only thing that I can caution you about here is whether the skirt would be to tight on the lower abdomen.  Be careful that material doesn’t make it hard to walk in or that it would show too much because it was tight.

Otherwise, this seems like a great modest skirt.

This skirt from DCM Apparel is a whole 34” long.  It has no slits and a drawstring bottom and waist band.

What’s nice about this skirt is that it isn’t heavy—weighing in at only 1 lbs.—until you add things to to pockets.

That’s right, this cargo skirt has pockets a plenty, but it is still maintains its modesty, as it is ankle length.

I don’t know what you think about skirts with pockets, but this one does look sharp in black.

If you thought this dress was black, then you’re forgiven—I did too!  Instead, it’s a dark chocolate, with copper beading running down it.

This dress has everything that works for a modest formal.  The length—does this girl actually have legs?  The shoulders are covered and the neckline is high.

The dress fits loose enough, and it’s not of too shiny material.

This is a classic dress and as far as I can see there’s no problem.

Black is the new black—I think?

This suit, like many of the others, has a great neckline, a decent length, a skirt piece that’s great for modesty, but it’s looking at this one that I’ve come to a conclusion.

Much like the Crazy Daisy, this suit looks tight on top—and I think that this is helped by the fact that the color is solid.

The Blue Lagoon, Hawaii Turquoise and Wave Blue all have patterns, which has the effect of distracting the eye from focusing on the woman’s form than with the solid color.

Can you see what I mean?

There are so many things I like about it, I’m having trouble picking a couple favorites! I’ll start with the neckline…it’s definitely high enough to provide plenty of coverage if you bend over so you don’t have to worry about anything showing which I personally LOVE!

I adore how the end of the sleeves, the hem of the dress, and the neckline are all finished with the same edge, adding a special touch to the dress.

The 3/4 length sleeves and the black belted empire waist are so beautiful also. I totally love everything about this dress and how appropriate it would be for many different occasions!

Many of the big chains like to show off cleavage on pregnant or nursing mothers.  However, that doesn’t mean that we have to forgo a look simply because they want us too.

If you paired this shirt with a similar or contrasting layer underneath (a camisole or tank top) I think that you would find that this is a great dual purpose shirt.

Home with your husband alone, you can wear it without the under-layer, but out and about you can wear it with!

I always wondered why skirts didn’t have pockets.  Then I found out that some do.  This skirt, though, goes the extra mile and has cargo pockets!

This maternity skirt is tailored in medium weight denim with spandex for comfort.  It has an adjustable waistband, so you can wear it through your whole pregnancy.

There’s a left front pocket that’s zippered and a snap pocket as well.  I can see multiple uses—like storing a phone a pacifier or anything else that you could use as you’re carrying out your day.

The Sleeveless Sheath pictured right is a good example of a what could be considered a “little black dress” except that this one would also be pretty modest.

Other than the fact that this is sleeveless, so the shoulders are shown, the holes for the arms are high, the neckline is high, and the dress comes down to the knees.

And that would be my only problem—the length is a little short on this model, so that means extra care would need to be taken when sitting and getting up.  Other than that, I’m having a hard time finding any problem with this dress.

Everything looks better with black.  I was once told that this was because black made facial features “pop”.  This is why the “little black dress” category exists, and you can see why with this model.

This model also gives us another illustration.  In multiple reviews we’ve discussed where a hemline would be when a person sat down.  If you click this image through to the actual item and look through the alternate images, you’ll see that this hemline falls a little above the knee.  Here, as this woman sits, you can see that a few inches above her knee and of her thigh are shown—and the way that she has to sit to keep some semblance of modesty.

When you wear a skirt that ends above the knee, or doesn’t go somewhat down the calf, you have to remember to sit “lady-like” and I’m sure you’ll find yourself tugging at the skirt wishing it would go down further.

Other than that, no complaints with this dress.  There’s a slight V-neck that I don’t think would be an issue for anyone.

New Creation Apparel does not stock dresses, however they have a number of nice black skirts! One of my favorites from their site is their ‘Black Butte’ skirt.

This skirt is nice and long, and could easily be dressed up for a night out or worn casually for shopping or around the house. It can be washed in a washing machine, which is such a great bonus, and is available in a variety of sizes.
