Societies change over time, not all at once.  Therefore the battle is not exclusively to change the current generation but the next.

What practical tips can we employ or encourage so that the next generation of ladies will not be as objectified as the current one?  How can we encourage modesty in the future?

We must practice modesty ourselves. Explaining to people why we are modest may help influence them to be modest as well. Our own children need to see the positive modeling of modesty.

The quote from the post today, “Your clothes should be tight enough to show you’re a woman and loose enough to show you are a lady” is a pretty good description of what's appropriate for adult women, but how does it apply to younger ones?

Thought in progress…

That could be a good argument for adolescent girls wearing purple shirts or rainbow socks. Their clothes would have to be rather tight to show that they are girls, so they show it in other ways. What's pretty cool is that most of them do this anyway, without the rationale.

Of course, color is only one way to do it, another is silhouette. One could wear skirts because they're characteristically feminine, or one could wear tank tops because if one hasn't got much of anything to show, they're less immodest. I mean, the guys liked the tank topped girl who fit that silhouette, right? On the other hand, suddenly saying "okay, your figure type has changed, you can't wear that kind of shirt anymore" would hardly make for a very happy teenager.

To the question introducing this topic, I would say we should make sure they have girly things if they want them so they won't feel like they have to dress immodestly to be girly.

Chrs, does that involve changing what is called girly?  Because right now, girly may be defined as trampy.

Um,

Remind me never to use that word again. I meant to refer to clothes toward which female children tend to gravitate. Shiny things in unwearable colors accented with kittens.

Speaking of kittens, I was in Sears tonight and they had this shirt that had "Hello Kitty on it" with the words– "You had me at Hello."  It got a chuckle out of me.  :)
