Modesty and Swimwear – sometimes they seem as far apart as Mars and Saturn.

For us women, there are so many different choices of swimwear on the market these days – from youru 'typical' bikini or one-piece, to the specially made 'WholesomeWear', to simply wearing everyday type shorts and shirts.

As Christians, what we wear should glorify Christ, and so we would say that the bikini is out of the question. More skin is shown than covered! Bikinis are not modest, provide no sun-protection and simply are not practical!

The next option is a one-piece swimsuit. While some of these are just as revealing as a bikini, there are some options out there which are fairly modest. This is especially good  if you need a one piece for compeditive swimming or something similar. Modbe Clothing seems to have a great range of swimsuits which are fairly modest and reasonably priced…

Then we turn to the privatly made companies, like WholesomeWear, who create modest swimwear that is going to cover everything which needs to be, is good at keeping the sun off, and there is no risk of this coming undone or falling off when you dive into the pool! As well as providing a modest swimwear option, these outfits make great general beachy wear as well! Though you may pay more for these than for other options, this is most likely to be your best bet for finding something totally modest and will keep you covered. Simply Modest and HydroChic also have modest swimwear…

And of course, you can always to the surfer-chick type look, wearing board-shorts and a rash shirt over the top. While it can sometimes be hard to find a thick, good value rash shirt or pair of boardies, this could be a slightly cheaper option to a privatley made swimsuit.

All in all, it would seem that to guarantee you have a swimsuit which is going to cover everything, made-for-you or boardies-and-rash-top is going to be the best option…

Any other opinions? (remembering that this is just what I think…)

Great suggestions– I like how you covered all the bases.

I've never totally understood why it's appropriate for men to have longer swimtrunks and women to be taught to bear as much as possible.  Just seems wrong to me.

In any case, hope the ladies find this helpful!

ooo…. that reminded me of something…

In my opinion – there is no reason guys should not wear shirts while swimming or at the beach. I know my friends and I can get… distracted… and spend hours watching guys mucking around for not apparent reason, and I don't think the no-shirt thing helps.

Especially in a casual summer setting, I would say it is appropriate for the guys to wear a shirt and shorts – lets leave the speedo suits on the shelf!

Any other opinions?

Eeeek Speedos.

I agree there are several options. I generally don't swim much anymore, and if I do it's while wearing long shorts and a teeshirt over a one piece swimsuit (that way, if the cloth bubbles or floats up, I still have something to cover!).

I've never owned a speedo, and I'm uncomfortable without a shirt even in the water– so no qualms with me.

It would also put a lot less stress on us guys who could stand to lose a few pounds. :)
