The cover features a picture of a girl with a very common outfit for girls today and begs the question: what exactly is this book about? To quote the book itself; “sexy girls is all about helping you understand your body and how guys look at it.”

This book takes on the questions of what is sexy? Are you sexy, and do you want to be? Should you be sexy? And what is the ultimate goal of being sexy? These questions are tackled in an easy to read, fun style, yet they’re handled seriously and with quotes from various sources, including youth pastors and verses quoted directly from the Bible.

Each day when a girl gets dressed, she is putting together a “PR package” that states who she is, how she wants to be viewed and what kind of person she is. This book helps target the PR that many girls want, yet also gives some glimpses into guys’ brains in a very straight-forward manner. Although, throughout the book, guys are looked at kind of negatively for their thought life as well as compared to cavemen who can’t seem to control themselves.

“If what you’re showing ain’t on the menu, keep it covered up” is the tag line for this entire book of question and answer sections and quizzes. The reminder is there many times throughout the book, that people, men particularly, are watching what you wear and what you’re not wearing. Not only does Dimarco cover clothing choices, she also takes a look at piercings, tattoos, and makeup.

Overall, it had some helpful information, I would recommend it to women who haven’t been to church all their lives or girls who are struggling with wanting to reveal too much skin.

Visiting their website, the first thing that you’re struck by is that it is not high tech, but that is part of their cost savings that they pass on to you.

As far as modesty goes, the main appeal of Apricot Apparel is the fact that their shirts are long, and have generally high necklines—which are great for layering.

It also helps that they have an abundance of colors to choose from in every size (XX-Small to XX-Large). All shirts are guaranteed not to shrink in the wash.

Ordering is pretty straightforward. You can place an order of a quantity and size by selecting the color from the style page, and then add to cart. They have a handy chart to tell you shipping costs. The sizing chart will also help you to know what size you are.

The shopping cart is handled off site (it still appears to be Apricot Apparel, with the normal branding but a different URL).

They say to expect your order within 5-8 business days, priority will make it within 3 days.

Anyone have experience with Apricot Apparel? How did you like their site/product?

One of the things that I didn’t know about the company until I contacted them for this review is that the company is located in Israel! That means that you need to plan for extra time for shipping to the states.

The pleated long slinky fabric skirt I got is navy in color. Its fabric is flowy and extremely comfortable. It is made from 90 percent polyester and 10 percent lycra.

The style is quite versatile and can be worn with a dressy top or a casual one. It is knee length which is nice for people who strive to be modest.

I like the fact that it is easy to care for. It is machine washable in cold water. It can be tumble dried on the low setting.

The company seemed friendly, and they even included a complimentary gift of bazooka bubble gum from Israel which I thought was extremely neat!

I was very pleased with this company and the quality of the skirt.

This is an extremely neat product from DCM Apparel. The design of this shirt is unique because it has two different colors, one on each side of the shirt. It saves on the cluttering problem in women’s closets. Instead of buying two different shirts you only need one that has the two colors on.

The tanks-a lot I am reviewing is a reversible black and white under layering tank. It is made of stretchy, 90 percent rayon and 10 percent spandex material, for a sure fit. It is made in the USA. It can be washed in cold water and lined dried.

The company seems friendly and easy to work with. The shipping of this product was fast.

It has a nice high neckline, which is very modest. If you like the layered look or if you just have shirts that are too low cut this product is a great find.

Christa Taylor is a modest clothing site on a mission. Not only is the mission to be a successful business and to sell modest clothing for women, but it also exists to combat the epidemic of abandonment throughout the word—widows and orphans without care. You can read more about this mission at their site, but I find it comforting to know that part of all sales go toward this mission.

The online store has five departments: Dresses, Skirts & Shorts, Coats & Jackets, Accessories and Swimwear.

Dresses

We’ve been featuring selections from the Dresses selection all week in our Quick Reviews. What we’ve found is a great, high class selection of dresses that fit multiple different venues. The dresses have great colors and style, with most of them have a high neckline. Many of them hit the knee on the models we reviewed, while some are slightly above, and some of them show off the shoulder.

The site shows color options on the main search page, instead of making you drill in and choose a color option—something I find annoying on other sites because they usually only model one color and it’s how to see how the other colors play out.

Skirts And Shorts

Although the department says “Skirts and Shorts” I was unable to find any shorts pictured in the list of items. My guess is that when they carry modest shorts, here is where you’d find them.

A majority of the skirts are long, falling mid-calf to below. There are two skirts currently in the collection that fall right above the knee. As with the dresses, the different colors have their own images.

Do you know the difference between a coat and a jacket? The length! If it’s meant to cover a majority of your clothing, it’s a coat, otherwise it’s a jacket.

In this case, Christa Taylor has three different coats for sale—two if you count that the red and the black are the same style, just different colors.

For accessories, there are two berets and a headscarf.

Their current selection of swimwear could mostly be summed up in two different suits—a Brown Retro Rouched Suit and a Baby Blue Suit. Both of these look more like clothing than swimwear—which is much of the point with modest swimwear.

Yesterday, in Part I, we introduced you to Allison Josephs from Jew in The City. You can read that part of the interview here.

Let’s continue our interview:

LH: So, is it true you have some famous friends who also dress modestly?

AJ: I’m friends with author and speaker, Wendy Shalit – I blog for her site. (I haven’t blogged in a while, but I used to blog quite frequently there) http://blogs.modestlyyours.net

I’m also friends (and study regularly about Judaism) with actress Mayim Bialik. She was always a pretty modest dresser for Hollywood, but our learning about tznius together inspired her to wear skirts only and she’s managed to wear skirts for basically every role she’s gotten since she took it on.

LH: What’s your biggest challenge in dressing modestly?

AJ: I happen to have very low knees – you wouldn’t think I looked out of the ordinary if you saw me walking down the street or anything, but I’m 5’ 7 1/2” and my mom’s 5’ 3” and years ago we realized that our knees were in the same exact place! Needless to say my low knees make finding skirts that cover my knees quite challenging, especially as skirt lengths have gotten shorter in most stores in the last few seasons. One of my tricks has been to buy “tall” sized skirts from stores like GAP.com and OldNavy.com since they’re cut for long-legged women!

LH: Who is your modesty role model?

AJ: I don’t have a role model per se, but my best friend Tammy’s pretty great at finding that modest/cute balance. And the best part is, she’s always lending me stuff!

LH: Why do some Orthodox Jewish women cover their hair? Is that part of modesty?

AJ: It’s an extra form of modesty that married women take on since when they get married, there’s a new sexuality that they’re tapping into (since Jewish law prohibits couples to even touch before they’re married). This sexuality is a very positive thing, but getting back to the privacy issue, it’s meant for only a certain time and place (i.e. within the marriage). Hair has a certain sensuality to it – think of the expressions “running fingers through hair” or “letting hair down.” So keeping the hair covered in front of other men is an opportunity to keep the sensuality of hair just between the husband and wife.

LH: Is it true that some Orthodox Jewish women wear wigs?

AJ: Yes – the law is to cover only one’s own hair- but it doesn’t specify what to cover the hair with.

LH: How can I tell if it’s a wig?

AJ: Many of them are pretty hard to tell! If you’re trying to figure out if a woman’s wearing one, you could try tugging on her hair and see what happens. (I can’t guarantee what the results will be though!)

LH: We love your clothes! What’s your favorite online modest clothing shop?

AJ: Junees.com

LH: Can you leave us with an inspirational story?

A woman emailed me after watching my hair covering video and explained that she had been thinking about becoming more observant, but hadn’t really done anything about it. After watching the video she said it made total sense, so she decided to cover her hair which started her down the path of observance and she’s now totally religious!

Thanks, Allison, we loved the chat. Check out Allison’s blog at www.jewinthecity.com.

Many of us lament the fact that red carpet dresses get skimpier and skimpier every year. We found a blogging superstar in New York City who dresses modestly and isn’t afraid to talk about it.

Meet Allison Josephs. Her blog, Jew in the City, was nominated for Best Religion Blog at the Blogger’s Choice Awards. Her video, “What to Wear on my Hair?” has been viewed over 40,000 times on YouTube.

Allison describes herself as, “one Orthodox Jewish woman breaking down stereotypes about religious Jews and offering a humorous, meaningful look into traditional Judaism.”

We chatted with Allison about modesty and Judaism.

LH: What is the basis for modesty in the Jewish religion?

AJ: The idea behind modesty, or tznius (in Hebrew), in the most basic sense, is about privacy. It’s not about shame or looking unattractive. It’s the idea that some things are not meant for public consumption. Because of that, Jewish modesty is not just about how we dress, but also about how we behave, what information we share or don’t share with the larger world. It’s a sense of discretion that seems to have been lost on a society full of reality tv shows!

LH: Is modesty for men as well, or just for the women?

AJ: Modesty is for both men and women, though the rules are not exactly the same for each gender and I think it’s because Jewish law understands something about the female and male condition when it comes to sexuality. Women are generally more interested in showing off their bodies (think tank tops, miniskirts, and plunging necklines) than looking at scantily clad men. Men are generally more interested in looking at women’s bodies (ask yourself which magazine has more readers – Playboy or Playgirl) than showing off their own. (Most men – even in the heat of the summer wear shirts to around their elbows and shorts to their knees.)

Because of these natural inclinations, while women have some restrictions on what they can see of a man’s body, they’re more restricted in what they can show of their own. Similarly – although men can only show more of their body than women can, they’re allowed to see less of women’s bodies than women can see of theirs.

LH: We see Orthodox Jewish women wearing skirts and long sleeves. Is this the norm? What exactly are the rules?

AJ: There are different opinions in Jewish law when it comes to most issues which mean that different communities have different things they do (but all have some basic agreement). The most basic sources about modesty that you can find in the Talmud mention covering the “shok” – which is the leg (including the knee) and covering the “z’roa” – which is the arm, covering the elbow (although some say only until the elbow). Most communities cover the collar bone as well, since it’s an easy place to make a boundary, (though it does not have a source in the Talmud as the leg and arm do). Some communities like longer skirts and sleeves and have stockings also as part of the norm, although these are stringencies and not basic law.

Regarding the skirts – this is a bit of a discussion. There’s no law in the Talmud that says “women must wear skirts” – but at a certain point in Jewish history, the overall community of observant women made a decision to not wear pants. One reason is for modesty, as pants show the separation between the legs; another reason was to have an identifiable way to dress as a Jewish woman. Because the skirt thing is less clear cut than the sources from the Talmud – you will find Orthodox women out there who cover their arms, legs, hair, but wear baggy pants.

We’ll publish the second half of this interview tomorrow!

I said this in the first post about “Mirror, Mirror: Am I Beautiful?” and I wish to say it again, this is one of the best books I have read this year. I recommend every girl who reads this post to read “Mirror, Mirror, Am I Beautiful?” by Shelley Hitz. I could not help but think throughout the book of girls I know who could benefit from the advice and encouragement found in this book. I plan on referring this book to my friends, as well as young girls in the Sunday School class I teach.

The last few chapters talk about the relevancy of God’s Word and the fact that archaeology, history, science and prophecy confirm God’s Word to be true. Shelley provides Bible verses, statistics and facts that prove the Bible to be the inspired, infallible Word of God. I am a Bible student in my second semester of college and I finished studying archaeology and the Old Testament, and the history behind the Bible a few weeks ago, so I enjoyed reading what she had to say about the subject. She makes some excellent points!

Aside from facts and statistics, Shelley Hitz talks about the importance of salvation, and how we can have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. She talks about how prayer and reading God’s Word will benefit our lives, causing us to grow deeper in our walk with the Lord.

At the closing of “Mirror, Mirror: Am I Beautiful?” Shelley Hitz includes scripture references to help us overcome issues we deal with, such as fear, insecurity, hopelessness, shame and worthlessness. Included in the appendix of the book are printable scripture cards and worksheets to help you with your struggles and overcome them by reaching out to God who is the only one that can completely rescue you from your circumstances, and He will rescue you, when you call upon His name.

I like that how all throughout the book Shelley Hitz leads you to God. With every point she makes, and every opinion she states, she always talks about God, and that is refreshing. She does not dogmatically state her beliefs and opinions, she is not forcing them one anyone. She teaches, explains and encourages in a loving manner, you can truly tell from her writing that her heart is to help girls in their struggles and lead them to the feet of Jesus where He gently picks us up and welcomes us into His loving arms, to heal all of our brokenness and strengthen us with His love so that we may find that our true beauty lies in Christ.

True beauty is found in the eyes of our Creator. Seek Him, and you will find your worth. That’s the whole purpose of “Mirror, Mirror: Am I Beautiful?” I encourage you to read the book!

Forgiveness…we have all be there. We have all faced the need to be forgiven and the choice to forgive others as well as ourselves.

Shelley Hitz discusses the topic of forgiveness in her book, “Mirror, Mirror: Am I Beautiful?” She explains step by step the importance of not only seeking forgiveness from God, but seeking to forgive those who have wronged us, and forgiving ourselves for the wrong we have done.

It is not always easy to forgive, sometimes it can be painful to forgive, but forgiving someone is easier than the pain that unforgiveness brings in the long run to us and those around us.

I enjoyed reading chapter twenty-two of “Mirror, Mirror: Am I Beautiful?” This chapter is titled, “Forgiveness: God’s Max Strength Drano.” Shelley Hitz uses Drano as an illustration of forgiveness. I won’t go into details, because I do not wish to spoil the chapter for you by telling you what it is about. I do hope the title alone interests you enough to go and read it! I guarantee it will make you think. I for one, will never look at Drano the same way again!

God instructs us in His Word that we are to forgive seventy-times seven. In other words as many times as necessary until we no longer harbor unforgiveness towards someone who has done wrong to us. That also includes forgiving ourselves for the wrong we have done, whether that wrong was hurtful to us, or someone else. We need to forgive.

One step that must be taken in order to experience true freedom, and start enjoying your life and realizing your beauty and worth you have in Christ, is through forgiveness. Regardless of the circumstance, forgiveness is the key to letting go of the past that haunts you.

Shelley Hitz explains in her book the repercussions of not forgiving others and ourselves, and the benefits of forgiveness. It does not take long to realize the benefits of forgiveness are much more enjoyable.

If you are struggling to forgive someone, or yourself I encourage you to read “Mirror, Mirror: Am I Beautiful?” by Shelley Hitz. For more information about Shelley Hitz and her book please visit the website links below!

I became excited when I read a chapter in “Mirror, Mirror: Am I Beautiful?” dealing with “kissing dating goodbye,” a term made popular after the release of Joshua Harris book, “I Kissed Dating Goodbye,” published in the late 1990′s. It is also one of my favorite books, so I was excited when I read Shelley Hitz opinions on dating and her belief that we should not date just for the sake of dating, especially if we are not ready to be in a committed relationship that will lead toward marriage.

In “Mirror, Mirror: Am I Beautiful?” Shelley Hitz does an incredible job of covering the topic of dating, sharing her own opinions based on experiences in her past. The advice she gives in her book regarding dating was especially encouraging to me. I find that it is always good to get other’s opinions on the subject of dating or not dating. I decided in my early teens not to play the dating game, and I admit it is easy to feel like a fish out of water when all your peers seem to be playing the game very well, but at twenty-two, I don’t regret my decisions not to date around just for the sake of dating. Reading what Shelley Hitz has to say about dating, confirmed my decisions, giving me a kind of extra boost of encouragement.

Not only does Shelley Hitz discuss dating or no dating, she also talks about boundaries that need to be set in relationships with the opposite gender. She writes, “Your sexuality is a gift to be enjoyed with one person in a committed relationship called marriage, until that time, your sexuality is asleep.” She refers to scripture and explains that if we are not careful to guard our hearts, we can easily open the door for compromising situations to occur and find ourselves in deeper water then we bargained for.

Shelley also explains how flirting can lead to compromising situations as well, and advises us not to get carried away. Flirting can lead to things we never imagined we would get ourselves into. She explains that the Bible says in Proverbs 4:23 that we are to guard our heart for out of it are the issues of life.

All throughout the book Shelley Hitz includes scripture references from God’s Word to back up the points she makes. I encourage everyone who will, to read “Mirror, Mirror: Am I Beautiful?” by Shelley Hitz. It will give you insight, and possibly a new perspective, but most importantly it will encourage you in your walk with the Lord.

Fashion choices are everywhere. It is almost impossible to go one day without being faced with an advertisement for the latest fashion trend. Let’s face it, they are everywhere! Often times the fashion being advertised compromises modesty, and it is easy to give into the temptation of being immodest for the sake of wanting to “fit-in.”

In her book “Mirror, Mirror: Am I Beautiful?” Shelley Hitz discusses the topics of fashion and modesty. She gives helpful advice on how we can be modest and still dress fashionably. She makes the statement “Just as you might not eat a certain type of food because you know it will make you sick or give you heartburn, I believe there are certain fashion choices that can lead to ‘spiritual heartburn.’” She also answers the question “Is it possible to dress trendy without dressing trashy? To be modern, yet modest?” Her answer, “YES!” It is possible to dress trendy without dressing trashy! We can do it! It may take some effort on our part, but it is definitely not impossible to do.

The advice she gives in relation to our fashion choices hit home with me. As a young woman trying to choose clothing that is in style, yet modest, I found her advice to be encouraging. She makes some great points and challenged me to take a closer look at my wardrobe to make sure the clothing that I own upholds my standards of purity, and most importantly is pleasing to God.

Fashion decisions do not have to be a pain to make, it is really easy, especially when we allow God to direct our decisions, even the decisions we make concerning how we dress.

“Mirror, Mirror: Am I Beautiful?” by Shelley Hitz is one of the best books I have read this year, and I am not just saying that because I am writing a review about it either! Not only is this book enjoyable to read, but it is also easy to read. Shelley Hitz wrote the book to minister to girls about finding their true beauty in Christ. Throughout the book she offers advice, encouragement, prayers and Bible verses to back up the points she makes.

I am encouraged by this book. It is refreshing to read a book that speaks about things I have struggled with, such as self-esteem and confidence with who God made me to be. It can be so easy to fall into the trap the devil sets for us, to try and steal our joy by getting us to focus our attention on our outward appearance, instead of on our inward appearance, where it really matters.

Shelley believes that “…one of the biggest influences on girls today regarding beauty is the media.” I wholeheartedly agree with her. The media has a way of making us feel like we are not worth anything if we do not conform to the image they portray. Often times the message they give us, is we have to look perfect or we will not be loved. That is a lie. I cannot begin to count the times I have felt negatively about myself, believing if I could just lose some weight, or get in better shape, have a new outfit, new shoes, or buy new make-up, I would feel better about myself. The truth is, once I did any of that I might have felt better for a little while, but it never lasted, eventually I still felt miserable inside because I was not allowing Christ to fulfill me.

Shelley Hitz believes in order for us to be happy about what we look like on the outside, we must first realize who we are on the inside and love ourselves. We can only do this by realizing that Jesus loves us, and find our worth in Him, only then can we be truly happy with who we are on the outside. No one knows us better then our Creator. No one can understand who we are inside as well as Jesus understands us, because He created us. We have to get in touch with our Creator, to know who He created us to be. It is in Christ that we find our worth.

In her book Shelley Hitz does a great job of helping girls overcome their self-esteem issues by leading them to the Word of God. I encourage every girl who reads this to read “Mirror, Mirror: Am I Beautiful?” by Shelley Hitz. You will be encouraged!

With spring right around the corner, I find myself wishing for a few non-formal/non-winter dresses. I have plenty of nice clothes for summer, so I don’t need to run out and buy anything (besides, I love the thrill of thrift-store shopping anyway!). I am in the process of trying to find a dress to have on hand for business lunches and semi-formal dinners. Because of my husband’s job, I need to have a dress or two like that around…Rushing out to buy something at the last minute is rarely good for the budget! :-) In the process of looking around, there are a few dresses that have caught my eye.

One is the red Audrey dress from DiviineModestee. I love the fact that it has a high neckline, and is below the knee. Red and dark purple aren’t my favorite colors (nor are they very “springy”), but the dress itself is very feminine and modest at the same time.

The others are from MikaRose. These dresses are long enough to still cover the knees when sitting, and they have such feminine detailing. I especially love the button-front shirt dress…It can be dressed up or down and look very classic. The black dress with the cowl-neck would be nice to have for concerts, nice dinners, and yet would even work nice for a trip to the park.

I think they all have their lovely qualities, and if they were in your price range ($45-70), they would work as beautiful staples for your modest wardrobe!

*No, this isn’t a hint. :-) I’m not pregnant, unfortunately. However when I was, I noticed a huge lack of cute and modest maternity clothes! So I wanted to highlight one or two cute things…

(I am specifically focusing on layering pieces and long skirts here, since the knee-length skirts, regular blouses and jeans/pants are readily available at places like Motherhood Maternity…)

Shade Clothing has some beautiful cap-sleeved t-shirts for maternity wear, and they have a nice high neckline as well as a long length…not a common combination, especially for maternity clothing!

DownEast Basics also has roughly the same selection as Shade, with the addition of high-necked tank tops. They are $9.99 each, which I think is a good deal for maternity clothing.

I also found these adorable long skirts. The black velour one is from Lilo Maternity and is a bit more expensive that I like; but if you need something like this, and thrift stores aren’t working, sometimes you have to “bite the bullet”. New Creation Apparel carries the long denim ones, and love the fact that they come in three lengths (petite, regular and tall) as well as having a stretchy panel and an adjustable waist (whoever came up with that idea for maternity clothing is brilliant, and I thank them profusely).

I love the long skirt with the ruffle–both so feminine to me; yet, the tailoring and plaid design of the skirt keep it dressy and professional. I wouldn’t use a suit like this often but it would work well for meetings I attend with my husband, as well as other functions that require more than my usual denim skirt, t-shirt and cardigan. :-)

You can find this at New Creation Apparel on sale for $69.70. (I know, it’s a bit more than most of us can spend on clothes…but a girl can dream!)

Jaime Stephens, the owner of Molly’s Clothing was gracious enough to send us two items from her company for us to try and review. She sent us the Mini Camisole and the Mini Midriff, which are both from their “Mini” line. Due to the size I wasn’t able to wear these a lot to test them out. However, from the moment I opened the package and from the little bit I did wear them, I could tell that Molly’s is a quality company, selling quality clothing.

The items were packaged beautifully, all tied up in a pink ribbon and wrapped in polka-dotted tissue paper. I appreciated this little extra touch of “specialness”. Very classy!

I tried the Mini Camisole first and was really impressed! Unlike a lot of camisoles from even “modest” companies, this actually came up high enough in the front that I would be comfortable wearing it. It was trimmed at the bottom with pretty, soft lace and elastic that keeps it from “riding up”. The fabric is a non-fading, very stretchy lycra. It may not breath especially well in hot weather, but that is off-set by the fact that it’s only a “half-cami” so it might actually be cooler than a full-length cotton one! The fabric is also a little bit heavy, but that seems like a good thing to me. It would be hard to accidentally poke a hole in it or have it wear out fast since it seems to be a nice quality fabric.

The Mini Midriff was also very nice! Again, the fabric is very good quality, with an elastic waistband. I think this would work especially well for people who are long-waisted and need a little extra to “lengthen” their shirts. Since I am really short-waisted most of my shirts are long enough to begin with, so this wouldn’t help me as much as other ladies.

The prices on these two items might be a little higher than I would normally buy, having never seen the clothing and not knowing the quality. However, since I have seen how nice these pieces are, I would definitely consider buying some of the “Mini” line especially, since they are so versatile and practical.

Molly’s Clothing carries a great selection of layering pieces classic t-shirts and camisoles, some cute dresses, and a few feminine accessories. I would highly recommend you check them out!

When I got a chance to do a review of a shirt from Diviine Modestee, I jumped at it! They were gracious enough to donate one of their more elegant shirts for me to wear, rather than the typical “layering” tees and camisoles that I’ve been reviewing up till now. They sent their “Bow-Tie Satin shirt” in black.

The shirt seems to be very good quality. The neckline and arms are bound in matching satin trim, and there are satin ribbons on the arm bands to tie into knots or bows. This makes it dressier…perfect for holiday parties! It is a nice balance between the practical comfort of t-shirts and the feminine dressiness of the satin and bows. (The bows are a little too “girlish” for me, but I think they are cute! I could probably even trim the ribbon length to make the bows smaller and less of a little-girl look if it was a big deal.)

The neckline is more of a scooped neck, rather than a crew-neck, so it is a little bit lower than regular t-shirts. As a note, it fit lower on me than it showed on the Diviine Modestee website model. However, I didn’t find that it was immodest (and my husband didn’t think so either). The fit is slightly form-fitting, but not in an immodest way. (If you are too concerned about it, just order a size up and that should fix it!) The long length is also very nice…you won’t have to worry about gaps between your pants and shirt.

All in all, I think that from what I can tell of Diviine Modestee from this one piece of clothing, they have great quality and a nice selection of layering pieces, some slightly fancier shirts (including a few with lace and sequins), and some beautiful dresses that they’ve just added. They also have a much larger variety of t-shirts and camisoles than other companies I have seen. I really look forward to trying some more of their clothing.

However, this is the most exciting part for all of our readers! Diviine Modestee is offering a special for you to enjoy. They are offering 10% off purchases on-line from their Sweet Innocence Dress Collection. Use coupon code modestdress2008 to take advantage of this great deal. (This code expires 12-15-08.)

Old Navy

www.oldnavy.com

I am sure most everyone has heard of Old Navy, if not already purchased from them before. However, I’ve run across a few things that have either been really great in the modesty department, or been a complete disappointment.

My favorite item at Old Navy is their “Perfect-Fit T’s”. It seems that they tend to make them a bit on the small side (or maybe I just like looser-fitting clothing) so I buy a size bigger than normal. The quality is not great (they won’t last for 5 years, probably) but it’s nice to find a fairly inexpensive t-shirt that I can wear every day and when it wears out I can afford to replace them (even if it’s once a year). I really like the selection of colors and the fact that they have such a long length.

I also like their different layering tank-tops and camisoles. They are all too low in the neck, but they all are nice and long for layering purposes.

My biggest disappointment with Old Navy is that some of their knit fabric tends to be too thin for wearing alone. I have found this to be true in some of their t-shirts, as well as in a new style of polo shirt. Even when I layered them, the shirts showed every edge and seam of the camisole underneath!

I also wish that they would make camisoles with higher necklines, and skirts and dresses that came below the knee. They have some very cute, feminine styles that would be perfect with a little bit of extra fabric!

The selection is fairly limited (two or three styles of skirts, each in several different types of fabric), but they are professional-looking skirts and are a very good price. They have your standard denim, khaki and black, but they also have some stretch fabrics and a few other types of non-traditional fabrics available.

Modesty and Quality:

The skirts are long, and can be customized to length at no additional charge. I was especially happy with this feature, because most places charge you several dollars to customize length, if they do it at all.

They will also work with you to customize some of the details—for example, I didn’t want belt loops and they had no problems leaving them off. The skirts are very well-sewn—they look very professional, and the fabric seems to be excellent quality. They have lasted lots of washing, and much wear-and-tear from the mother of a busy toddler.
