Is it red?  I have a hard time telling persimmon from red.

In any case, red is definitely the attention getter, and the shiny satin definitely will draw attention.

That being said, the neckline is high, the shoulders covered, and the dress is just shy of floor length—so you don’t have to worry about tripping and falling while all eyes are glued to you.

I could see this dress being completed by a nice necklace, and hair down instead of up.

This interesting dress has a number of nice features. 

• The bow is well placed and feminine.
• The neckline is high.
• The shoulders are covered.
• The length is just above the knee—which is about as high as I would recommend, because above that height you get into maintenance issues.

The color is nice, though it is shiny, satin is a big feature in modest formals.

Here are three visually interesting dresses.  They all feature a strong black color with a satin flyaway that reveals l’amour satin.

They all have an empire waist.

What I like about these dresses is that they have a very feminine look to them.  The flyaway portion with color provides a unique contrast.  The neckline is nice and high. The shoulders are covered and the dress is floor length.

There’s not much here to draw attention to form, and yet these are visually interesting dresses.

Here’s a pretty dress.  It comes in Baby Blue or Ice Pink and it looks great.  The waist has a band, and I like the position of the waist.

There’s embroidery near the hemline, and that draws my attention there and looks very feminine. 

The bust seems a bit stiff in material—so it won’t cling to your top.  The neckline is high, and the shoulders are covered.

The material seems shiny, but not to the point that it’s flashy.

Actually, I think the dress could work going to church or other outings than just the prom or a wedding.

These two dresses make me feel like I’m part of the magazine Highlights, asking what is different?

Both dresses are Dreamsicle in color.  Both of them have great lengths, high neckline and cover the shoulders.

There’s much to like about this formal gown.  The shoulders are completely covered, the neckline is nice and high, and though them hem is a little different, the front is even over the knee.

Again, the eye is drawn to the skirt portion, and that part is nice and feminine.  The torso could be considered a little tight, so take care to make sure that it’s a good fit.

It also looks like it’s made of satin type material, so our advice about shiny material applies.

There’s a lot that’s interesting about this dress.  My attention was first drawn to the lower half.  The beautiful skirt portion of this dress is an attention getter, and definitely of appropriate length.

The top crosses over to a belt, and the upper skirt is nice as well.

The neckline is nice and high and the shoulders are covered.

A simple formal with a plain bodice, this dress has a lot going for it in terms of modesty.

The length doesn’t get any better, though the model on the left should watch that she doesn’t step on it or walk through the mud.

The neckline is nice and high and the shoulders are covered.

Like most of the formals we’ve reviewed that were made of satin material, you should be careful of wrinkles and that it’s not pulled too tight for shadows.

There is a shirring that’s draped across the waist, but it’s low enough that it’s not causing too much attention to the upper half.

A pretty modest, if play, gown.  All you have to do is pick the color!

What a strange name for a pretty formal dress!

The material seems to be of the satin variety, as it does have some “reflective properties.”  It looks as if the material might hold wrinkles, but the black color would be fine.

Speaking of colors, there are plenty to choose from at the site!

The length is nice, being at least mid-calf.  Can’t complain too much about this neckline.

All and all, this is a good, modest formal—do you agree?

Modest By Design has a ton (and I mean a ton!) of Duchess Satin colors for you to choose from…it’s almost mind-boggling!

However, like a couple of the other formal gowns I have reviewed, this one looks a bit tight in the chest area…just a warning.

I still can’t help adoring this dress!!! It’s just stunning and so elegant!

I love a good deal…and this dress is definitely a steal! It’s a gorgeous style, with a long skirt, a high neckline, a thin belt, and the cutest cap sleeves ever!

The only problem I have with this dress is it looks like it might be tight/and or draw attention to the chest because of it’s style…I think a smaller woman would be able to pull it off modestly, though.

I love the selection of colors (the cobalt one is SO pretty!), however, it looks like they only have a couple sizes left….and they’re on sale!!!

Oh, did I mention how much I love the petal sleeves?! :)

This adorable dress has something that most of the other dresses I have reviewed don’t….three lovely colors!!!

The fuscia is definitely my favorite, although all of them are equally beautiful! The square neckline also adds a different touch, along with the bow that ties in the front, and the tulle peaking out below the hemline.

I love how it is slightly more casual than some of the other gowns that Modest By Design offers yet still just as stunning!

There are so many things I like about it, I’m having trouble picking a couple favorites! I’ll start with the neckline…it’s definitely high enough to provide plenty of coverage if you bend over so you don’t have to worry about anything showing which I personally LOVE!

I adore how the end of the sleeves, the hem of the dress, and the neckline are all finished with the same edge, adding a special touch to the dress.

The 3/4 length sleeves and the black belted empire waist are so beautiful also. I totally love everything about this dress and how appropriate it would be for many different occasions!

Yellow is such a cheerful color and what better way to brighten your day than to wear it?

Although this lovely dress is under the "Bridesmaids" section on Modest By Design, I think it would be amazing for any formal occasion, including a wedding. The pleated, scoop neckline is one of my favorite things about this dress because it offers a little extra fabric and thus modesty for those who need it.

I also love the wide waist band and length of the skirt…so beautiful, stylish, and modest!

Today’s dress comes from Modest by Design.  This beautiful a-line, empire waist satin gown comes in over fifty shades of colors and would be perfect for any occasion, be it a formal dinner, or even a bridesmaids dress!   I did not know tulip sleeves existed until I saw this dress, now I like the name!   Need some adjustments made to the dress? Not a problem, Modest by Design offers to do special changes to the dress including shortening the length of the skirt by five inches if long is not your style!  This dress really is Modest by Design!
