“Where have you been?” Laura exclaimed.  “I thought you’d been kidnapped!”

“What do you mean, I just ran to the back for customer service because I saw a small tear in this skirt and wondered if I could get a discount.  Then I came back to find you but you weren’t around.  I figured you must have paid for what you wanted and went out to the car, so I went out to look for you!  I was just about to call the police!”  Tracy explained.

“That’s funny, I thought the same about you,” Laura replied.  Just then Laura’s phone chirped.  She picked it up and took a look at it, “That’s Noah.  He’s wondering if we’re going to be out much longer because he’s ordered pizza and wants us to pick it up on the way home.”

“Men.  I tell ya,” Tracy responded.

“Well, I guess we’d better go pay for what we’ve picked and get home,” Laura replied.  “I mean, who wants cold pizza?”

Just then an announcement came over the loudspeaker, “We’d like to congratulate Anne S. for winning the October 2011 New Creation Apparel giveaway at Is This Modest. Hope that you’ll come back next month to try again!”

The ladies headed up to the checkout, and while they were waiting Tracy remarked, “I think I’m going to check out New Creation Apparel.  Is This Modest has a giveaway from them every month, and if I get on their newsletter I’ll get an e-mail when they do their giveaway.  You can never have enough high quality skirts.”

It’s hard to find many sites catering to Modest Activewear.  Most activewear is meant to be tight to keep things from moving and to wick away sweat.  Lucy has a couple of skirts that they use for activewear—perhaps we need a whole other series on this.

Destination Maternity has skirts, shirts and other products that grow with you while you’re expecting that pending arrival. Much of what you find at their site is expensive, because of the belly panels and the extra material, so keep in mind you’re probably going to spend over $100 for a quality skirt from them.

What you really need to do here is check out the site and find something that you like.  Then, sign up with the various sites for their deals, or put them on a list of things that you need your husband to get you!

This poncho looks comfortable, all the way around.

The length is nice, and it covers everything.  It comes down past the knees at the point, which is great.  The length on the arms is good.  The neck provides a lot of warmth!

This would be a great item to wear in the autumn—as long as it’s not too long that you’d find yourself caught or sitting on it.

Do any of you own a poncho?  Do you like it?

This tie-back cardigan looks comfortable, and is a nice color (though it comes in four different colors. 

Some things I noticed:

• Button downs can be tricky, but the spacing here is small—meaning less gaping.
• Button down also allows for being more immodest in private—a plus for us husbands out here.
• The shirt seems to get longer in the back.
• That means that you might sit on it when you sit down.
• You shouldn’t have anything exposed when you bend over.

All in all, a great cardigan.  What did you notice?

Ignore the top, for the moment, because it is definitely immodest—I mean, sure, you could fix it with an under layer, but I’m not even sure that there’s any debate on that top by itself…

The skirt is what I want to focus on, and boy does this skirt look luxurious.  I mean, it looks warm, it drapes well, and it’s got a nice pattern.

So what do you think of this skirt?  It’s a maxi-skirt, so I think that the length is great.

There’s a saying that goes that a guy can’t pull off a women’s look, but a girl looks cute in a guy’s clothes.  I guess that’s part of the trend of “boyfriend pants” and other cross-overs.  Truth be told, I think it’s kinda neat when my wife wears one of my shirts!

In any case, this Sweater has a styling and pattern that reminds one of the chunky sweaters that some men wear, though I’m not sure I’ve seen that many men wear v-necks—the only complaint I have with this one.

In fact, this sweater looks so warm and comfortable right now that I wish I had it!

You’ll need a tank or cami under this one to make it modest, though.

It’s that time again!  Time for another giveaway, and this one is going to be an easy and I hope fun one.

Some of you may know that while I was in high school I wrote a fiction story.  In fact, I’ve published a lot of it over at MInTheGap Fiction, though I’m not sure how good it is…  In any event, I have some characters over there that have shown up in different blogs from time to time, and I figured now is the time that they show up at Is This Modest.

For this month’s giveaway, I want to create a new story based on these characters.  I’ll detail more in a moment, but here’s where it gets (I hope!) fun.  Here are the rules:

• Comment must be 3 to 6 sentences… OR  Be a line someone spoke.
• You may comment as many times as you like, but you must wait for someone else to comment before adding on.
• Do not use the reply feature, because it will mess up the story.  Any replies will not be counted.
• You get one entry per comment that meets the rules.

So, we’re writing a story.  I’ll get it started and tell you about the characters, and from there, where it goes is up to you and how creative you get.  Write a paragraph to move the story along.  Write some dialog for one of the characters.  It’s up to you!  I’ll write a wrap up when it’s done.

And so, without further Ado, Fiction Meets Modest:

”Honey,” Tracy said, “I want to go to the store and pick up a new skirt.”

“That’s fine, but you know what happened the last time,” Adam replied.  Being a detective, he was used to interrogating a suspect, and so it was hard to turn that off.  “You went to the mall with Kristin and neither of you could find a thing that was modest to wear.”

“I know, but Laura showed me this website, IsThisModest.com, and it had a list of all sorts of places that I could find modest skirts, and I think that I could find some of these things locally—if they have them in stock,”  she replied.  Laura stayed at home with the kids and had a very stylish fashion sense, so Tracy knew that she could trust her.

“I thought Laura and Noah were going out tonight?”

“That was the original plan, but circumstances have changed.”

You take it from here…

The one thing that’s great about tunics is that they really cover.  I mean, there’s no question here that nothing will be exposed when the lady bends over to pick something up.

This particular Tunic and Cami looks extremely comfortable, and it comes in this color and black.  The sleeves give a feminine look—they’re quite flowy but do show the arms through the translucent material.

The neckline is decent, though it might be a tad low on some people.

Soft Surroundings has some really great clothes that it seems like it would feel great to wear.  This dress is no exception.

The Delphine Dress also comes in black, and it meets our modest criteria—it’s long, it has wide straps and it does not come down too far in the front.  It could even be paired with an under layer (maybe a turtleneck?) to be a tad warmer!

Do you like the crinkled type look?  What type of environment could you see yourself wearing this type of dress?

What you will find at ModCloth is that it is not wholly a modest clothing store.  It’s more a store with retro styling—hence the “Mod” name.  However, this also means that you will find some items that are modest, as these items below would definitely fit our definition:

What do you think about getting modest skirts from a shop that mostly styles in something else?

My opinion is that, as long as there is no brand identification, a modest skirt is a modest skirt.  If there’s brand identification, then it’s possible that the association with a store (think here buying something from Victoria’s Secrets with their “Pink” branding on it).  That could pose potential problems as people would wonder why you’re buying at a store with the image that it has, and may wonder what else you’re getting there.

Kosher Casual is a great place to buy clothing.  My wife received one of their skirts to review and she wears it all the time!  You can be sure that you’ll find good quality at their site, and though items may take a little longer to arrive (they ship from Israel), you will be sure that their skirts are worth the wait.

There’s no one on this list that can beat the sheer numbers of skirts that are offered by New Creation Apparel. That’s because they are the expert at modest skirts. Just take a look at some of these:

What’s neat is that they’ve advanced into Maternity Skirts as well, and they have some great skirts there.

Now I know that some have had questions about sizes—I know that my wife has received a really nice one from them and yet she has a hard time finding others in a size that fits her.  So, you’ll want to check the sizes, but I think that most of you will find that you will find a skirt that will flatter you as well as make you stylish and modest.

Chadwicks is one of my favorite stores for finding clothing for my wife. The clothing comes as advertised and the styles are always up to date. Since they’re a bigger store they often rotate products in and out.
