Christa Taylor is closing her store on October 30th! Although I am sad for her, I am also happy for the excitement around her liquidation sale and especially for her venture into photography which I am currently helping out with (more details on that later). It was not too long ago when I first met Christa at a fashion show around my area, and I guess we haven’t stopped connecting ever since. The girl has skills. You should definitely check out what she’s got in the store before everything gets sold out!

I just received the Lucy Dress in black, and I loved it. It was classy, feminine, vintage-inspired, and modest—that pretty much sums up her line.

What do you think of the lines/embellishments.  I know that they attract my attention, mostly to the upper body near the face with what looks like pockets.

The dress is a good length, falling at the knee on this model.  The belt is a great accent, and not too distracting.

The neckline is open in a kind of V, but it is high and the buttons and the embellishments make it not draw that much attention.

What do you think—do you like this look?

I like the way that the fabric comes together for the waist, and the dress length is good—it’s at least at the knee.

The dress itself seems to stay open, and not fall flat, so that leaves me some interesting questions about the fabric—though it can be machine washed.

The neckline is good and high, and the shoulders exposed.

What would you think with a big floppy hat and sandals?

The tunic has a nice belt to highlight the waist—though it may accentuate the bust as well.

It does should a bit of the shoulders, but you can’t beat the top—it’s almost like a turtle-neck!

The bottom isn’t too much of a question, because it’s not a skirt (though I guess it could be in the privacy of your home…).

It has two big pockets in the front, so you won’t need to lift it to access your jean pockets.

What do you think—tunic is a good thing?

Christa Taylor is a modest clothing site on a mission.  Not only is the mission to be a successful business and to sell modest clothing for women, but it also exists to combat the epidemic of abandonment throughout the word—widows and orphans without care.  You can read more about this mission at their site, but I find it comforting to know that part of all sales go toward this mission.

We’ve been featuring selections from the Dresses selection all week in our Quick Reviews.  What we’ve found is a great, high class selection of dresses that fit multiple different venues.  The dresses have great colors and style, with most of them have a high neckline.  Many of them hit the knee on the models we reviewed, while some are slightly above, and some of them show off the shoulder.

The site shows color options on the main search page, instead of making you drill in and choose a color option—something I find annoying on other sites because they usually only model one color and it’s how to see how the other colors play out.

Skirts And Shorts

Although the department says “Skirts and Shorts” I was unable to find any shorts pictured in the list of items.  My guess is that when they carry modest shorts, here is where you’d find them.

A majority of the skirts are long, falling mid-calf to below.  There are two skirts currently in the collection that fall right above the knee.  As with the dresses, the different colors have their own images.

Coats, Jackets and Accessories

Do you know the difference between a coat and a jacket?  The length!  If it’s meant to cover a majority of your clothing, it’s a coat, otherwise it’s a jacket.

In this case, Christa Taylor has three different coats for sale—two if you count that the red and the black are the same style, just different colors.

For accessories, there are two berets and a headscarf.

Their current selection of swimwear could mostly be summed up in two different suits—a Brown Retro Rouched Suit and a Baby Blue Suit.  Both of these look more like clothing than swimwear—which is much of the point with modest swimwear.

There is also a section for markdowns for those that are looking for a deal on their styles.

This is a really cute dress.  And the accessories only make it all the more stunning!

You can see the dress without the accessories at the Christa Taylor site itself, and it is pretty in its own right.

The dress features a black color with a white hem that hits the knee on the model.  It has a high neckline and exposed shoulders with a v-necked back.

I like the white gloves and flower in the model’s hair because it makes the outfit a bit more feminine.

Our vintage inspired, all-occasion “Little Black Dress” features a comfortable, crisp cotton sateen, with a subtle sheen. Sleeveless silhouette. Fitted bodice, full skirt with pleating encircling the waist. V neck at back. Back zip. 23“ from Natural waist. 2” White band at hem. Dry Clean Only.

The length is great, and the neckline is nice and high.  The shoulders are also covered.

According to the marketing material, the wrap flatters all shapes and sizes, though I believe that must be within reason.

Made of 100% natural fibers, it fits like a glove but still allows you to move freely with the comfort of breathable cotton. If you want to stun them with perfect simplicity, this is the one!

This is a great modest dress, sure to get lots of use!

This radiant retro print will transform those soggy days into blissful warmth. People will be cheered up just walking by you.

This dress has a nice high neckline, accentuated by ruffles that draw attention to your face.  It has a belted middle to bring it in at your midsection.

The only thing that stands out to me as a potential problem is the length.  Just above the knee is modest while standing, but could present issues when sitting or entering and exiting a vehicle—make sure to keep your ladylike seated position!

The most interesting feature of this dress is the collar—with the bunched up fabric and the high neckline, it is definitely one of the first things that people will see as you’re wearing this dress.

This dress is low effort—it’s easy to “pull on and go” and it even has pockets at the hips!

The length is great as well, going well below the knee (hitting mid-calf on this model) you won’t have any issue with movement.

There are only two quibbles that I could have with it.  The first is the pockets—be careful what you put in there!

The second is the elasticity.  It is made with Cotton/Poly with stretch from Italy, so if you don’t get the right size you could find that this might hug your curves a little much and end up distracting.

I love Christa’s ‘Doris Dress’. This dress reminds me of a 1920′s movie. It is such a classic style.

The polka-dot lining and belt are so cute and fun. This dress does come slightly above the knee, so may not suit everyone.

The description does suggest it could be worn over jeans, for a causal look, or with a cute pair of heels and some ‘bling’ for a dressy style.

It is machine washable, and in the slightly higher price-range to some of the other dresses. It would be a great buy for someone who is a fan of the 1920′s.
