In with all the product reviews, lists, and talking about what makes an outfit modest, we made passing mention that modesty truly starts in the heart.  It’s an outgrowth of a personality.

We recently discussed reasons that people are modest, and that culminated in the discussion that one of the most powerful reasons to be modest is that a person wants to be modest.  Part of that means that a person is living a life that’s characterized by traits associated with modesty.

Specifically kindness, humility, submission to authority, love—all of these things and more are characteristics of a modest person.

The funny thing is, I’ve been talking in and around these topics on multiple different sites without seeing the link until now!

So, what will be happening starting this week is a folding in of some endeavors that I’m not sure stand on their own any longer.  I’ll be bringing those that fit here.

It’s won’t that we will no longer talk about where to find modest clothing or what constitutes modesty.  It’s not that we’ll not have any more giveaways.  My hope is that what it does mean is that our conversation about modesty will become more than just a discussion of where a hem should fall and whether showing cleavage is ever acceptable to talking about a proper heart attitude that yields a modest person all around.

We’ve discussed before that modesty is about more than clothing.  True modesty must come from the heart.  It finds itself surrounded by humility, peace, submission and a kind spirit.  It’s more than just making sure the hem is long enough or the amount of skin that’s showing.

To that end, while we’re still going to be discussing those types of questions, I’ve got a new writer that will open up on Wednesday in a different direction.  While talking about the coming holidays she’s going to focus on the spirit that we should have towards others.

Don’t be surprised to find other posts taking a unique take on modesty—modesty of the heart as well as the clothing we wear.

Today marks the 3rd anniversary for Is This Modest!  Yes, it was 3 years ago, in 2008, that this site first went up with multiple posts, Quick Reviews, and the like, and we’ve been going ever since.

To help celebrate our third anniversary, we’ve collected a number of items to giveaway, codes to share for discounts at modest retailers, and we’ve got a new way to run the contest!

The fourth of July is a great time of year—it’s a time to remember the people that are fighting to protect our freedoms.  A time to be with family and eat outside.  A time to watch fireworks!

For my family, this time of year marks a special event that happened 10 years ago this Thursday.  It was on Saturday, July 7, 2001 when my wife and I got married in a little church and embarked on our life together.

So, in celebration of that time, Is This Modest will be taking a break off for a couple of weeks.  We’ll probably do some things behind the scenes, write some posts so we’re a little more consistent on the other side, and launch the July skirt giveaway, but there will be no day-to-day posting until we get things in order.

Thanks for being great readers, and I look forward to seeing you on the other side!

Many of you that are bloggers are familiar with the concept of the Internet Meme—something that’s done on a weekly basis that people participate in and work to build community.

At Is This Modest, we’d like to encourage you that there are people out there that dress modest, as well as look good.

To this end, we’re going to start Modest Mondays.  Basically, the idea is:

1. Take a photo of yourself dressed modestly.
2. Post it to your blog.
3. Let us know in comments.
4. We’ll link to you in the body of our post.
5. Our readers will then go to your site and be an encouragement!

To kick this off and get is started with a bang, we’re going to pair this up with our monthly New Creation Apparel giveaway!

I’m looking to start a new feature, and this one is a lot of fun!

I’m looking for someone who likes to look through items that retailers have to offer, and can put together items of the same type across different sites.

Something like:

As the temperatures start to warm up, more minds will be drawn to the summer.  People everywhere will start to think of relaxing on beaches and wondering if last year’s suit will still fit.

We want to help you find the modest swimwear that’s right for you—whether that’s a conservative one piece or something that covers you head to toe!

As always, swimwear and modesty is one of the more explosive subjects, and that’s understandable.  Our culture wants women to believe that wearing underwear in public is acceptable.  And yet there is something to be said for making sure that you can get around in your outfit.

To that end, we’ll be showing different suits that are across the spectrum of what many consider modest.  We’re sorry in advance if your personal convictions do not favor what we select—our effort is not to attempt to display immodesty, but to help you find the right suit for you with regards to modesty.

We’ll also be featuring wedding gowns and formals, as we know it’s also that time of year!  Oh yeah, and a formal or two will be thrown in for good measure, because some of us wait until the last minute, right?

As of 1:00 pm yesterday our site had been flagged by Google as a site that’s giving out harmful malware.

Needless to say, it was pretty distressing.  The actual hack probably happened over night the night before.  Someone broke into the file server of the site and added some code that took any visitor to ITM to a random set of sites claiming to treat some kind of Windows Error—which, instead installed malware or viruses!

Hopefully, you’ve all updated your Firefox browser to Firefox 4.0—which made the messages show up as a modal window in the browser instead of making it look like it came from Windows itself.  Also,  I got a big red page telling me that the site was infected.

After a couple hours of work, I managed to find the offending files, purge the hijacked data, and then change the FTP password to something more complex, and submit the site to Google for review.

Let this be a lesson to all those running their own sites, no one is immune to hacks.  Be careful with your passwords and always have backups.

‘Course it doesn’t hurt to be a software engineer, either!

We’ve had issues with the forum in the past, and without anyone using it on a regular basis, it was hard to say that the problems weren’t gone—I mean, I’ve updated the software and I tried test posts.

This contest that we’re having has resulted in more frustration with the forum, with threads not letting you back in—but I knew that it must work!

So, after a little research, I think I found the culprit—another plugin I have running on the site.

I’ve changed the settings on that other one, and I believe that things should be back up and working properly.

So, for those of you that are using the forum as part of the 7 days in a Skirt challenge, please let me know (this post would be a good place to put it) if you still have difficulties.  Please try to open your old threads and see if they come up.

I’ll attempt to count days on any thread with your name on it towards your point total, or merge them if I can figure out how to do it without losing anything!

In any case, I’ll try to fix anything  you find as quickly as possible.
