At the poolJust for fun—and as a point of research for this article—I Googled “Modesty on Spring Break.” I guess I shouldn’t have been surprised to be redirected to: ‘No results found for “Modesty on Spring Break.”’ In other words, according to Google, it doesn’t exist.

Very soon, many College and High school students will be packing their carry-ons with little more than bikinis and sunscreen. After all, this is the world we live in. So for Christians, how does that jive with Rom 12:2a “Do not be conformed to this world…”?

Is it possible for Christian spring-breakers to pack a dose of modesty into their suitcases?Absolutely. And unlike Google’s assessment, not only is it possible, it’s easier than one might think.

FBF-book

Q: Modern fashion is constantly pushing the envelope in terms of what it can get away with.  How can the Christian woman remain current (not looking drab, frumpy) while at the same time not succumbing to the fashion industry’s desire to market the woman as a sex symbol?

RLC: I’m a bona fide clothes fanatic. A clotheshorse. I shop in my pastime, and my downtime. I shop pre-season sales and post-season sales. Thrift stores and Boutiques. But my goal is to find the most fashionable duds that are undeniably modest.

As a professional model for twenty-plus years, I’ve modeled for some of the biggest names in the industry: Cover Girl, Tommy Hilfiger, Reebok, and possibly thousands more. But because I am a Christian, I set out to discover if fashion and faith could coexist without conflict. In a world where the most popular catchphrase in advertising is “Sex sells,” I wanted to find out if there was a way to wear the latest fashions without dishonoring God or developing a bad reputation (Proverbs 22:1). In my challenge to discover how fashion and faith can successfully collide on and off the runway, I developed these tried and true “modeling modesty” tips:
