It doesn’t take much to make a big impact on a person.  Take, for instance, the kindness displayed by someone who was a normal citizen doing his job.  Vlad, on his myspace blog, comments how that when they were in New York City they went for a rickshaw ride.  After the ride, they asked him his fee and paid him.

Not even thinking about it, we paid him his token 15 dollars, and walked into the train station. A few minutes later, we could hear him calling something out to us. I realized I left my teeshirt in the rickshaw (how one accomplishes that, I’m not sure), but really, Rickshaw Man, you’re my hero.

But not all is fun and games. On the train ride home, I realized that we had forgotten to tip him. Alas, my own inexperience and naivety at the expense of others.

So, one of these days, I’m going to find him and give him a nice tip for all the kindness he bestowed upon us. I’d just like to say, if you ever read this, I’ll be finding you soon, Rickshaw Man. I’ll be finding you soon.

This man made an impact, and he was doing the right thing.  Next time you think that it takes a big act to show kindness, remember this story and the impact you can have with simple acts of kindness.

I'm a 35 year old guy married to the most beautiful woman in the world (VirtuousBlonde) for 10 years, and has 5 mostly adorable children-- depending on whether they've had a nap, of course. I'm a software developer by trade, though I like to write on various topics. I got my start in blogging at MInTheGap in 2004 writing about culture, politics and got started talking about modesty on this site just 3 years ago.

I agree with you. It really takes an act of kindness to make a great impact to the lives of other people. Now if only all of us will do one good deed a day…
