Here’s one that you can all get in on.  We’ll be awarding points to the top 5 people that leave the most comments during the month of February.

The rules:

  • You cannot post two comments in a row and have them count—there must be a comment from someone else present.
  • Comments can be placed on any post on the entire site, but will only be counted if they were written in February 2011.
  • Comments must be at least 3 sentences long.

Awards:

  • Top Commenter: 25 points
  • Second: 20 points
  • Third: 15 points
  • Fourth: 10 points
  • Fifth: 5 points.

So this one’s really worth it!

I'm a 35 year old guy married to the most beautiful woman in the world (VirtuousBlonde) for 10 years, and has 5 mostly adorable children-- depending on whether they've had a nap, of course. I'm a software developer by trade, though I like to write on various topics. I got my start in blogging at MInTheGap in 2004 writing about culture, politics and got started talking about modesty on this site just 3 years ago.

This sounds like it will be fun! :) Coming up with THREE sentences for each post is going to be a bit of a challenge if you have nothing to say. :) I think the 7 days in a skirt is the best so far though.

    • MInTheGap says:

There’s always something to say– like you did here. If we didn’t have that rule, though, someone would just write "me too" all the time. That wouldn’t work. :)

      • ~AnneGirl~ says:

“Me too.” Teehee. :D That is a good point. People probably would do that.

I agree with Erin, I really like the “7 Days in a Skirt” aspect. I have had some trouble viewing those particular forum posts. :(

        • MInTheGap says:

Yeah, I’m not sure why it works sometimes and others not. I know that there’s a forum upgrade I have to run, but I’m not sure that it will fix it. Best to just create another thread and see if that works, and go from there. I’ll look for why they disappear when I can.

          • ~AnneGirl~ says:

It was perfectly willing to let me create a thread, I just wasn’t able to view previous threads. I’m not worried, it’s not such a big issue and I’m sure you’ll get it under control. I imagine that you are a rather busy man. GBY.

          • MInTheGap says:

I have seen where old threads have had trouble, and I haven’t been able to fix it. Thanks

  2. Catrina says:

Okay, I’ll leave a post to get Erin started :) I really enjoy reading the Is this Modest articles. It’s really refreshing to find others who appreciate the difference between the sexes. I wear skirts / dresses 90% of the time because I like it. It’s funny to me that it sometimes opens up a topic of conversation…”why do you always wear a dress?” My response is different everytime depending on who is asking….some people are just curious…some are just rude. Response to the rude: Why do you always wear pants?

  3. Cangralo says:

Oooh I like this one. Challenges are fun, because I NEVER win “luck of the draw” type drawings. This is like combining the two! ;)

  4. Raechel says:

Wow, I don’t think I have ever worked so hard for a skirt before! But I don’t have many skirts in my wardrobe. So I guess if I can win a free one it would be worth the effort.

  5. Catrina says:

Last summer I decided I wanted to ride my bike to work. Since I wear skirts most the time, I did a little research on “how” a woman rides her bike to work and still looks put together enough when she arrives at the office. One woman said something along this line “what is the big deal..? I don’t wear special biking clothes…I simply get on my bike and go.. (with my skirt) and change shoes at the office.” So that’s what I did…it worked out great :)

    • MInTheGap says:

I always thought that was why the bar on a girl’s bicycle was lower than a boys– so that girls could wear skirts while riding. Is that true? Just don’t get it caught in the chain!

      • ~AnneGirl~ says:

Props to you, Catrina. Glad to hear it’s working out for you. I don’t ride a bike to work, but I walk (in a skirt of course :) )! If it’s a particularly windy day, I try to avoid very full skirts that can blow up.

        • MInTheGap says:

That reminds me of the one time on BJU campus when there was this teen girl visiting in a denim skirt that decided to intentionally stand over a warm air grate. It’s a good thing it was a denim skirt. It poofed out and made it look like she was wearing a crinolin (sp?)!

          • ~AnneGirl~ says:

Maybe she was just having what I call, “a little-girl moment.” :) I’m 20 years old, and I still get the urge to run out into a field and twirl, or other such “nonsense.” :)

Let’s hope that’s what was happening to her, and not that she was trying to draw attention to herself.

      • Catrina says:

I insisted on a ladies bike frame when I was shopping for a bike. When I ride I usually wear a split skirt (gauchos) or a mid-calf black skirt with black bike shorts underneth. Works great!

  6. Melissa M. says:

Thanks for all the various ways of winning points!

  7. Missy says:

Oops, I saw that as the comments must be at least three *words* long. Saw what I wanted to, I guess! :P Well, I shall try my best. :)

  8. Ilka W. J. says:

I love the New Creation skirts! So, I, too, will work for a chance to win LOL. I bought a wonderful maternity skirt from NCA, which I still can wear postpartum. Anything 38 or 39 inch long makes me happy! ;-)

  9. Erin says:

I’ve been on the computer more this week than the last two months just to have a shot at a free skirt. I guess we just have to say blah, blah, and blah every time we get on. I’m almost certain that Annegirl has too many comments. :)

    • ~AnneGirl~ says:

Too many comments? I didn’t know such a thing is possible! ;) Allow me to explain myself. I once participated in a similar contest were commenting gained you points, and I was doing okay, until I didn’t have internet access for a few days… in which the contest ended and I was nowhere close to being the winner. Therefore, I thought I’d work up a nice little lead in case the same thing should occur. One can never tell what may happen.

All the best to you, Erin!

      • MInTheGap says:

I tried to help correct for that here, ~AnneGirl~, by making sure the top 5 get points, and not just the winner.

        • ~AnneGirl~ says:

We appreciate the consideration, MInTheGap. I did notice that, and am grateful. *grin* Wait, I’m not at three sentences yet. I might as well make it worthwhile.

Seriously, it’s time for me to go get some other things done. :)

  10. Erin says:

I almost had that problem last night. The internet connection was poor and I was on one minute and off the nest. I’m writing the bare minimum (3 sentences) for each post. I can’t spend too much time on here today.

  11. ~AnneGirl~ says:

@ MInTheGap, it’s okay. I know that men don’t get it. You know that saying, “Inside every woman is a little girl”? Well I believe it. And sometimes, sometimes it just feels that she has to come out. ;)

    • Melissa says:

I know what you mean. :) And I think it’s a good thing, too! We would be dull without those moments (at least I would). ;) I’m not saying immaturity is good. But child-likeness is somewhat different. It can be a good, fun thing, like twirling and enjoying God’s creation by chasing butterflies, etc.

    • ~AnneGirl~ says:

I completely agree with you, Melissa! :)

  12. Erin says:

Wow! I can’t believe that Annegirl is only 20! I’m one of those very old, old 21-yr.-old maids. HAHAHAHA!!!!!:) This has been so fun. Something to do in the middle of winter anyway. Not that winter is slow and boring. We just got a little boy for foster care and there is peace and quiet only when he is napping!:)

    • ~AnneGirl~ says:

What do you mean, Erin? How old did you think I was??? Heehee! And 21 is not so very old–I’ll be there before I know it. In fact, only 8 more months. :)

Maybe he’ll take an extra long nap today. *wink*

  13. Erin says:

It appears to me that Annegirl is my rival for commenting. I have to duke it out with her. Oh no! I’ll fight to the bitter end! :) HA HA HA!

    • ~AnneGirl~ says:

Oh boy! I’m not sure you want to try that! You might make a bitter enemy! HA! :) But I see you’ve been sneaking up on me steadily while I’ve been off working.

  14. Erin says:

I said back there that I was going to be busy and wouldn’t have a lot of time to spend on here today. But I have compromised. Anyway, I’m waiting for some supplies to finish my work. So when they arrive, you’ll probably get WAY past me.

    • MInTheGap says:

You two have way outpaced your rivals, however. But like I said, it’s a marathon, not a sprint!

      • Erin says:

Yah Who! I have finally caught up to Annegirl. This has made my day! But tomorrow I’ll come back and I will be in her dust. Oh well. This is sooooooooo fun!

    • ~AnneGirl~ says:

I was kind of wondering about that, Erin. *wink*

No, because by that time I will probably have to leave my internet source. :( And then you will get ahead of me. No matter, there are still plenty of days in the month!

  15. Erin says:

I hope you don’t plan to post 20 a day. I will definitely run out of things to say. WOW that rhymed and I didn’t even try to make it. How funny!

      • ~AnneGirl~ says:

@ Erin: Maybe you’re a poet and you don’t know it! :P Oh, might I thank you for giving me that little tip about running out of things to say!? It’s probably a good thing that you will most likely never meet me IRL. You would find out that I’m rarely, if ever, in such a state. *blush* Please excuse me while I go read again what James has to say about taming the tongue.

        • Erin says:

To tell the truth I probably will never run out of things to say either. Sometimes the boys wish my mouth had an “off button.” Don’t get me wrong, I do like peace and quiet.

          • ~AnneGirl~ says:

Rats. Just kidding! :P I can identify with that. I also like my times of silence and reflection. Those can seem kind of few and far between in my family!

  16. Erin says:

By the way Annegirl, I don’t have red hair. My friend does. You made a comment on a different page.

  17. Erin says:

I won’t laugh too hard. Jack will be a jerk if he doesn’t work. (My twist on a saying). I have 4 hours of staining stair railings ahead of me yet. :(

    • ~AnneGirl~ says:

Good luck with that! I don’t envy you. Staining is not my forte`. It’s okay on occasion.

      All the best!

      • Erin says:

Ah ha! You got passed me again. That is bad news for me. I’ll just have to work extra hard now.

        • ~AnneGirl~ says:

Pardon the finickiness, but don’t you mean “hard?” I’ll take it that you do.

Confession: half the time I don’t even pay attention to the comment counter. I just write as many comments as I can in lots of different places. I’ve gone through almost every post on the “Modest Online Stores” tab. (Except the maternity ones.)

The other half of the time I do pay attention. :P

          • Erin says:

There I fixed it. Now now tell the whole truth. I bet you look at that counter every time you write a comment. Just so you can keep 10 posts ahead of me.

  18. ~AnneGirl~ says:

I’m serious, Erin! I really don’t try to stay a certain amount ahead of you. I DO try to stay ahead, but if I were that die-hard I’d just sit at the computer all day and do nothing else. Instead I leave and do things. Then I come back and catch up. :)

    • Erin says:

Then how do you type so fast? You can whip out 25 comments in a short time. It takes me a while to come up with something.

      • ~AnneGirl~ says:

Well that would be telling. *wink* Just kidding. It probably helps that I’m very opinionated. I have an opinion on practically everything. ;) Sometimes I think it’s more a curse than a blessing. It’s an area where God’s been working on me. But I digress…

I’m not even that great of a typer. (Um, make that typist.) Honest. My brother is waaaay better than me!

  19. Missy says:

AnneGirl and Erin, you’re a hoot! :D I just want to stay in the top 5. Which may be a challenge. But hopefully I can do it!

  20. Erin says:

You little stinker!:) I leave for a day and now I can’t even see you way out in front of me. Oh well, I got more work done today than the past three days put together.

    • Ilka W. J. says:

Ugh. I guess I might as well give up right here, seing the numbers… But then, I have a 4yo whom I homeschool, and a baby, a husband, and a LIFE! LOL I guess, if there is some other giveaway in the future, I’ll have to rely on the luck of the draw… ;-))

      • MInTheGap says:

I don’t know if you have to give up, just keep in the top 5– shouldn’t be too difficult.

        • Ilka W. J. says:

Well, if it comes to being the hostess with the mostest, no chance for me – I just don’t have the time!! ;-) But I will keep looking (and posting), for the topics are just too interesting. I guess I will just have to save my pennies for a new NAC skirt… *sigh*

          • MInTheGap says:

Well the nice thing is that we have a giveaway every month. It’s one of the neat things about NCA and ITM– a special relationship we have. So, there’s always next month!

  21. Erin says:

I’m eagerly awaiting the Friday challenge. I’ve decided to stop chasing Annegirl. I don’t get enough work done in a day if I’m on the computer all day.

    • MInTheGap says:

Says the girl in second place that’s been posting a lot this morning. You two are so far ahead of the other ladies. I’m just stunned– especially how ~AnneGirl~ passed me! (And if you look at the comments just for Feb, she really passes me.)

  22. Lady Abigail says:

How on earth did AnneGirl do that?! Is the comment counter just for this month or is that total for each person? I’m going to have to go read her comments and see if I can guess her secret, (other than having lots of computer time anyway. :P)

    • Erin says:

She keeps telling me that she writes a little then does something else. She checks back throughout the day. I find that hard to believe. How can a person write as many comments in a day and still get her work done? :) The time she posts is usually pretty close.

      • MInTheGap says:

Maybe she has a blazingly fast Internet connection. Maybe she has a secret. Certainly she could use the links on the sidebar, but maybe she knows/uses something else as well. Hmm…

        • ~AnneGirl~ says:

Hmmm… wouldn’t y’all just love to know?!?!? But that would be telling… and that would never do. No indeed. :)

          • Lady Abigail says:

Fast typing skills combined with quick internet. Although, I managed to catch up using our fast computer sometimes and the slooooooooow computer when it wasn’t available. We young, single girls at home also tend to have gobs of time. But now AnneGirl is ahead of me again! This will certainly not do!

          • ~AnneGirl~ says:

I was wondering how you have so much time, Abigail! Seems like you been posting an awful, crazy lot! I haven’t been on here much recently. You’ve been commenting excessively. :D

  23. Lady Abigail says:

I can’t reply. Must be a limit to how many comments can go in a thread I guess. :) Yeah, I basically post-poned all work that I possibly could and commented all weekend. I got SO sick of commenting! Good thing the articles are beneficial!

I forgot to rate this post! Now I have. :)

    #Feb2011NCARating

    • ~AnneGirl~ says:

Goodness! No wonder you got sick of it! Wowzers… you must be really desperate to win a skirt. I wish I could postpone my life like that. Never mind, no I don’t. I just had a super-amazing weekend with some friends at a cabin. There were some absolutely wonderful times of sharing, laughing, crying, and praying for each other!

  24. Lady Abigail says:

LOL! I need a new denim skirt…and I love denim skirts…and I don’t like to sew…so…yeah. And I did still work, (actually, when I really got tired of commenting I went and finished a big project I had started with my little bro) I just have a flexible schedule so I decided to do most of it today instead of Saturday. I did a bunch this morning and I’m still going! :)

That’s great! I’m glad you had good time!

    • ~AnneGirl~ says:

Oh, I see. Glad you could get your project done. That’s always a good feeling to get things accomplished.

I’m not very great at sewing either. I wish I was better at it.

      • Lady Abigail says:

Yep! I made a ton of cookies and cinnamon rolls this morning and one of my customers came to pick them up a few minutes ago. It’s great to have that finished as well and a clean kitchen again!

My mom and two of my sisters are excellent seamstresses! I’ve gotten a little old to have them make my clothes for me though.

        • ~AnneGirl~ says:

Yummy! Why don’t you go make another batch. For me!! :) Just kidding, but I could really eat a cinnamon roll right now.

My Mom doesn’t really sew. She’s one of five sisters and some of them sewed and some of them didn’t. She was one of the ones that didn’t.

  25. Lady Abigail says:

I totally would if you lived in my neighborhood. :P Who knows, maybe you do and we just don’t know it! :P Some new people moved into a couple of houses down the street recently. I don’t know them.

    • ~AnneGirl~ says:

Now wouldn’t that be so funny if we lived close to each other! ;) I know for a fact that I haven’t moved for the past 16 years, so I’m pretty sure that wasn’t me. Heehee. It’s very unlikely that we live near each other, I kinda live in the sticks.

      • Lady Abigail says:

LOL, and I live in a neighborhood in the middle of town. And in a big pink house. I bet we’d know it if we lived near each other! Speaking of which, I’m off to find out how many cookies my neighbors want. I’ll be right back! :P

        • ~AnneGirl~ says:

A big pink house? There’s one of those in a town about 9 miles from me! I highly doubt that you live in it though. Too bad, or we could know each other IRL. :)

If you don’t mind me asking, how old are you?

          • Lady Abigail says:

That would be REALLY funny if it was my house! :P I’m 20 years old. How old are you?

          • ~AnneGirl~ says:

That would be hilarious if it would be!! I highly doubt it. It’s a pretty small county and I would probably know you if you lived here.

Cheers for twenty year olds! Yep, I’m twenty too. :)

        • Erin says:

I can’t believe you girls can comment so much. How do you have all that time? I’m seriously going to get a comment-writer-helper. :) I think there should be a third place prize for Erin (me). Not a second, cuz that would go to one of you two. :) ha ha!

          • ~AnneGirl~ says:

Really, I haven’t been on here that much recently. I’ve been gone for a couple days. I just comment here and there. Sure, I did comment a lot at the beginning of the month. But I’m not sacrificing my life for this contest. :D

    • Erin says:

That would be too weird if you two lived in the same neighborhood. You live in a pink house. That would be fun. I live in a great bit gray one. #Feb2011NCARating

  26. Lady Abigail says:

Yeah, I don’t live in a huge city, but the population is about 50,000. Oh yes! Us twenty year old are so cool! Humble too! :P

    • ~AnneGirl~ says:

Ha ha ha… that’s more people than live in my whole county!! :P I really like being 20. Do you? Turning twenty-one is going to make me feel old, I think. :P Not really, it’s probably all in my head–I really feel quite young.

      • Lady Abigail says:

Of course! I am looking forward to turning 21 though. I don’t think I’ll feel old, just mature. :P It’s still young enough that I can think of myself as young and think of myself as a full-fledged adult at the same time. Hehe.

        • ~AnneGirl~ says:

Well Yay! for you. I wish I thought of myself as mature. Ha! The funny thing, is that other people generally do. So when people make comments like that, I try not to laugh at them. JK! :P But we all have our areas where we need to grow.

          • Erin says:

This winter I have grown all over. Maybe that is why I want a new skirt! Kidding :) I will tell you one thing, you twenty-year-old’s, the older you get the busier life is. This is coming from an OLD 21 yo. ha ha.

I don’t remember if I rated this yet, so here goes!

            #FEb2011NCARating

          • ~AnneGirl~ says:

Thanks for the words of advice, Erin. (I say that in seriousness and jest.) Life sure does seem to work that way. In my 20 short years of experience, at least.

            You’re really not old, Erin.

          • Erin says:

I feel old. Maybe it is because I am so tired these days. I seem to never get a good night’s rest anymore. That is life is it not? I think I could sleep for a month straight and still not be caught up. :)

          • Lady Abigail says:

Haha, I DON’T think of myself as mature! I would just like to! :) I’m really just pretending when I try to act like an adult, I’m just a kid inside.

          • ~AnneGirl~ says:

I’m sorry that you are so tired, Erin. Maybe you’ll just have to start going to bed earlier. They say that your best hours of sleep are in the earlier part of the night.

@ Abigail, I kind of figured you were joking. :) You probably are more mature than you think!

          • Erin says:

I bet Abigail is way more mature than what she gives herself credit for. Both of you girls sound very nice. I bet we’d all be friends if we lived near each other. :)

  27. ~AnneGirl~ says:

Yes, and it’s neat that we are all close to the same age. :) I bet we would be great friends! Just another question I have to ask, were either of you homeschooled?

    • Erin says:

Definitely! I can’t believe you would think I wasn’t. Kidding! :) The public school is wrong. Parents are just lazy when they send their kids on the yellow banana to the indoctrination center. In my opinion. :)

      • ~AnneGirl~ says:

Hahaha, you are funny, Erin. I was homeschooled too, and I count it a blessing. However, I don’t go so far as to say it’s for everybody. My Dad went to public school and he turned out pretty amazing! :)

        • Lady Abigail says:

I was homeschooled all the way through. Yes, some people have turned out great in spite of going to public school (my Dad is one of them as well) but I would go so far as to say that it IS for all Christians.
“And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart: And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.”-Deut. 6:6-7
People have started thinking of homeschooling as merely one of several options for educating their children, but it’s much more than that. It is a lifestyle that I believe comes with being a Christian.
It’s interesting to read about how the public school was started and the agenda of the men behind it. “The Underground History of American Education” talks about that.

Well, one of you girls will have to win that skirt. :) I’m going out of town tomorrow until Monday and I won’t have time to post oodles of comments. So unless I happen to get REALLY inspired on Tuesday… :)

          • ~AnneGirl~ says:

Do you think you passed the three sentence minimum, Abigail? :P Teehee… I just had to bring that up. I must say, “talking” back and forth on this sight is so fun. :) Yes, I can agree that homeschooling should be a lifestyle. I still hold to my point that it doesn’t work for everyone. I feel very blessed to have had the privilege of being home-educated.

  28. Erin says:

I think I agree with Abigail that homeschooling is for Christians. My parents were both public schooled. The Bible says that training and teaching your children is your responsibility. I agree that homeschooling the whole way may not be possible for some people especially if something happens to one or both of the parents. In that case, the grandparents or people in your church should come along side to help. Or the children should be private schooled. Unbelievers should not be allowed to teach children even the basics. Young soldiers should never be sent out into a battle they aren’t prepared to fight. They are not capable of defending themselves and what they believe and they will be constantly bombarded with a wrong world view and bad morals. That is my two cents worth on this topic for now! :)

  29. ~AnneGirl~ says:

This article has 107 comments. I kind of hate to “mess up” such a nice figure by adding another. But this is the last day of Feb. The last day of the contest. And if I post 2 more comments I’ll get to 390. That sounds like such a nice number to me.

    • Erin says:

Well, you aren’t stopping commenting Annegirl. You are past that “nice” number now. :) I think I’ll stop at 427 comments. That sounds like a nice number to me. Just Kidding :)

I can honestly say that was my intention, but then you or someone else posted something that I really wanted to answer. So I did. Then I realized I’d “ruined” my number. So I figured 393 was a nice looking number instead.
