Striped Clothes

A few months ago we asked you, the readers, to let us know what your favorite color to wear was. The results were overwhelming.

  1. Blue (48%, 20 Votes)
  2. Pink (19%, 8 Votes)
  3. Green (17%, 7 Votes)
  4. Red (12%, 5 Votes)
  5. White (5%, 2 Votes)
  6. Orange (-1%, 0 Votes)

There were more votes cast for blue than the next four colors combined. To me this leads to a few interesting observations:

Blue is Not Only for Boys

Did you know that it wasn’t until the mid 1900′s that pink was considered the color for infant baby girls? Pink was considered to be a weaker red, which is the color of power. Blue was considered to be a cool, background color.

It wasn’t until the mid 1900′s that the pink in convertibles and lipstick got the country to switch identifying colors with infants.

And our poll tends to reinforce that, showing that a majority of you ladies like the color blue!

It Is One Cool Color

When I was designing interfaces for different computer applications, blue was a very popular color to use in the background. It isn’t as stark as black, but it does fade into the background and let the other colors have the focus.

Blue rarely takes the front stage, and it compliments well.

It Highlights the Eyes

The last thing that comes to mind is how blue highlights those that have blue eyes. To me, nothing makes eyes pop like having a blue shirt or blouse that compliments the eyes.

And I should know, having a beautiful, blue-eyed wife. :)

So, ladies, you have good taste with the color blue!

I'm a 35 year old guy married to the most beautiful woman in the world (VirtuousBlonde) for 10 years, and has 4 mostly adorable children-- depending on whether they've had a nap, of course. I'm a software developer by trade, though I like to write on various topics. I got my start in blogging at MInTheGap in 2004 writing about culture, politics and got started talking about modesty on this site just 2 years ago.

Enjoyable article! I don’t have blue eyes, (most of the time I don’t wish for them :P), but I LOVE them!

So far…I like the new layout!

It’s shiny and blue in here!

You mention black in the article, but didn’t include it as a poll option. nmeh?

I like to wear blue because my Dad and a guy I almost married both have said that I look great in blue. Plus, I’ve heard that guys like blue. I’m not dressing just to catch a guy, but then, I want to get married so in a way I do. :)

I’m glad you’re so humble about how you look in blue! Do I want to know what happens when you catch a guy? Is this a catch and release program?

      • Lady Abigail says:

Aw, thanks! I’m rather proud of the fact that I am SO humble! :P Catch and release? Yeah, right! No, I just need to find a better term so it doesn’t sound like I’m hunting. :)

Hahaha… there’s no conceit in your family! Because you’ve got it all. Just kidding, Abigail. Just kidding. :D Hmmm, I’m trying to think up a better term that you could use, but I’m just drawing a blank. :(

          • Lady Abigail says:

LOL! So that’s what I get for posting on this site! People pick on me just because I like blue! *innocent look*
I supposed we could say, “attract a guy” but that isn’t much better. My Dad wants his daughters to marry godly men and in good time, so he tries to teach us what will make us attractive to a man and make him want to find out more. One of those things is in the way that we dress, modest yet attractive.

          • ~AnneGirl~ says:

Right. It’s all in fun, Abigail. I really don’t think you are proud!

Sounds like your dad is pretty great guy. I’m SO, SO blessed to have an amazing Father as well. :) Cheers for awesome dads! :)

My favorite color isn’t blue, but it is a nice color. That was a funny article. Lady Abigail’s comment is funny, too. :) #Feb2011NCARating

Interesting observations about the color blue. It’s not my favorite color but I do enjoy wearing it. I don’t have blue eyes. My Mom and a few of my siblings do too. I always thought it would be neat to marry a guy with amazing blue eyes. But I’m sure I could love a brown-eyed man just as much. :D

I always wanted to marry a guy with blue eyes too. But it’s not a big deal.

Amen to the above (like, way above)! I love my awesome Dad!

      • ~AnneGirl~ says:

Are you for real? It’s fun to find things you have in common with people. Um, tell me you didn’t want him to have black hair too?!?!? Sorry, I just couldn’t resist asking! :D

        • Lady Abigail says:

I’ve always imagined him with dark brown hair, so not quite black, more my own color. :) I actually was in a relationship with a guy that fit the description. Didn’t work out though. :(

          • ~AnneGirl~ says:

Wow. Sometimes that happens. Talking about the relationship. I don’t think that every relationship that doesn’t end up in marriage is a failure. If God used it to work in your/his life it wasn’t in vain. God bless you, Abigail!

  6. Lady Abigail says:

That is very true, AnneGirl! And God definitely worked through that one even though I didn’t end up with a blue-eyed, brown-haired husband! :) May God bless you as well!

    • ~AnneGirl~ says:

It’s so good that you can testify to God’s faithful goodness even through that situation! Thank you, He has blessed me. So, so much.

P.S. I was thinking as we were discussing this earlier… it’s a good thing that looks are not what it’s all about. :)

      • Lady Abigail says:

No kidding! That would be stressful if I had to worry about looks all the time! I’m guessing a lot of us wouldn’t get married if that were the case, guys and girls.

        • ~AnneGirl~ says:

I know, right!? I’m just fine with skipping out on that stress. I agree with your second point as well. I think there’s a happy medium. You should obsess over the way you (or others) look, but you shouldn’t be sloppy, dirty, and uncaring about your appearance.
