Where is the line that separates modest from immodest? -- We're wondering that too.

I agree with Kristin and Mommajo. I was having trouble figuring out what was immodest about sweatpants. Just personal taste seems to be the only issue. :)

I agree with your last statement. Its basically the fact that we all look at each other and judge on some type of factor but never see ourselves on that side. Kind of like a double-sided mirror.

I'm going to agree with Kristin ... the comments from this post really didn't have much to do with it being a modesty issue; just not something most women find attractive... to each his own.

Although my opinions would be way too conservative for most in regards to my thoughts on whether or not outfits are modest I also am bugged by the Q Reviews. I think they bring down the integrity of the site. I think it's very valuable to talk about modesty and why it is important and it's very valuable for women to realize how what we wear does affect men and that we are accountable for our part in that. But I think the QR's get people caught up in judging/critiquing, seeking others opinions of what's appropriate (kinda like back in jr. high) rather than seeking the Lord and allowing Him to direct us and others individually in what exactly is appropriate. God doesn't put the same convictions of what's modest on each person's heart... that's something I've had to learn.

Your final point is important. Everybody is different, and wired differently. Everyone's "brain software" has different pieces of code (and viruses, to fit with the metaphor).

There is absolutely no reason that two people have to agree on any of this either. Isn't it awesome to be able to have your own view?

One can never please everybody...some have said they have a problem with seeing a girl's ankles and even her bare feet (like in flip-flops, which I wear a lot since I live at the beach) where many others say it's not a problem...I know I'll never please the whole world, so I stopped trying so hard. Don't get me wrong, I still see modesty as important, but when told to knit-pick an outfit apart (on a guy or a girl) we will naturally do our best to oblige.

I have to disagree on this one...

I didn't see a single comment on that post that stated that this man's outfit was immodest. In fact, most people said that it WAS modest but just not something that put forth a good appearance.
It would be the same for a woman wearing this outfit...while not immodest, it also doesn't speak well of the wearer because sweats will always put forth an image of laziness.

As someone who has been frustrated with your QR's in the past, I have to say that this argument doesn't explain away the problem for me. I feel as though all QR's do is teach people to judge what others are wearing when really we should be more concerned with ourselves. I realize that the purpose of the QR's isn't judgment, but if that is the outcome does the purpose really matter? What this basically said for me was, "well...we might do it, but YOU do it, too!!"....and in my opinion that doesn't make it okay.

Just my 2 cents... :\
