I think Foy doesn’t like belts. :) I agree with Erin and I think sometimes a belt IS necessary if you want to look like woman. It makes an otherwise loose outfit that would look much like a sack actually look like a dress.

I think the two issues are apples and oranges. Tucking in your shirt with pants is much different than wearing a belt on a dress. I understand the logic behind a belt on the dress, and I can see why they would wear it, but it’s not necessary.

Regarding pants: just by wearing pants, your technically defining the waist. I don’t have any issue with that. And I believe tucking in your shirt is essential to prevent the notorious “shirt rise” in the back and front.

@Foy: Does this mean you don’t think women should tuck in their shirts, because the pants/skirt waistband would define their waist? Not trying to cause problems…just curious. :-D
I think women often wear a belt like this not because they are trying to “show off” their waist, but because the outfit would look boxy and add 20lbs to their appeared weight, without it. Maybe it’s a pride issue, maybe not…but they don’t want to look like a boxy, thick-waisted “person”. They want to look like a woman–a lady.
A belt can also pull an outfit together…
