I think you're right. If you think of it from a perspective of physics, there is more "surface area" to cover at the back of the skirt/dress when a woman sits down than there was when she was standing up. This would make the whole skirt seem shorter while sitting down-- because it would have the effect of pulling the whole thing up/back. I believe this is the same effect with shorts. Hence why it's important to not just look at the mirror and say "these shorts are borderline." You have to sit in them as well! I was going to mention this too, Lola. I think you’re right. When you say skirts "shrink when standing," do you mean they end higher up the leg, or just that they <i>seem</i> shorter because you can see more leg or something?
