Stop taking Pictures of me, Jay!

Is this Modest?

MInTheGap: This top definitely attracts attention to this girl’s top. That being said, there’s not a lot of skin showing, and it’s a very feminine look. Mostly modest.

Miss Jocelyn: I think the neckline is just bordering modest. Not sure if she bent over it would keep her covered. Mostly modest.

Your Turn…

I'm a 35 year old guy married to the most beautiful woman in the world (VirtuousBlonde) for 10 years, and has 5 mostly adorable children-- depending on whether they've had a nap, of course. I'm a software developer by trade, though I like to write on various topics. I got my start in blogging at MInTheGap in 2004 writing about culture, politics and got started talking about modesty on this site just 3 years ago.

It is very feminine looking.. but the seams are rather strange? And yeah I agree with Jocelyn, if she bends over it probably wouldn’t be too good.

Yeah seams do draw the eye, and it’s a little too tight in my opinion.

I think the design of the line across her chest is not modest. It makes the eyes ‘go there.’ I wouldn’t wear it. We use the three finger rule from the collar bone in regards to the neckline depth.

As a seamstress and once doing in -depth college study of fashion design methodology I will give my opinion. Please don’t be offended anyone, these are just from the designer’s side of the issue! Feel free to tell me if this is too pointed, moderator, I just think if a person understands what the designer intended, they will be able to spot it in other pieces more easily. Here goes:
The seams diagonal under the arm and straight under the bust are there on purpose and work together to accentuate the bust and make it the focal point. It is all about line. If the top was a darker color this may not be as easily spotted, but the way it was sewn, it would still accomplish the same purpose no matter the color. Remember that men are drawn to even the shadow of a woman’s shape – you see decals like this all over the place.
This blouse was made to ‘help’ a girl with a smaller bust to look fuller. The snaps/ buttons in a longer sequence ending under the bust but above the navel are to give satisfaction in the perceived absence of cleavage while she is standing, and draw attention to a flatter tummy. I do agree with other comments that if she bends over you’d probably get a peek. The tip about 3 fingers from collarbone is great, also, no matter how high your neckline, be sure you place your hand over it when you bend over and you are safe as well as graceful.
The seams going down on the front sides are to draw attention to the curve of the waist & visually contrast with the hips, forming more tightly and perfectly the hourglass shape. They help the eye to get the full impact of the figure in two of the most popular erogenous zones: bust and hourglass. If she was in a more straight on pose this would be very apparent.
The near – shear thin fabric is a tease. The scalloped edging on the neckline is very feminine and helps an unsuspecting, more scrupulous female to be more willing to consider wearing it, but this piece is out of bounds.
