Is This Modest?

MInTheGap: It’s true that wearing something off the shoulder does show more skin, but it’s also more feminine. I’m going mostly modest here.

Foy: Move the shoulder up an inch, and its very modest. Clothes that “slope” off induce the mind to wonder how much else will fall.

I'm a 35 year old guy married to the most beautiful woman in the world (VirtuousBlonde) for 10 years, and has 4 mostly adorable children-- depending on whether they've had a nap, of course. I'm a software developer by trade, though I like to write on various topics. I got my start in blogging at MInTheGap in 2004 writing about culture, politics and got started talking about modesty on this site just 2 years ago.

Hey M, what makes it more feminine? Just curious.

Well, strangely enough, part of it is the cut– you’d never find a guy wearing something with that kind of neckline. It’s also the flowy/frillyness of the top. I guess a thing can be feminine and immodest– I mean, a lot of things that should only be worn for a husband are feminine and immodest. :)

I’m having to go with immodest here. I have always thought off-the-shoulder clothing to have a certain “come hither” element…very sultery. It is a look I love (not for the sultery element!) because it *is* very feminine… but I don’t find that it is a modest look to wear outside my home.

immodest… she can’t comfortably reach down and tie her shoe (which would bring her shoulders forward) without giving the world a peak at her blessings…
