I sit here in my chair, at my computer, depressed. I’ve sinned against God. Yet again. I seem to be doing this on a regular basis, and I continually wonder what God sees in me. What have I done that makes God want me? Is it because I champion for female modesty, something that goes against every grain of a male’s hardwiring? I don’t know. Honestly. It confuses me, why He would want me. Foy. It’s bizarre as all get out, especially when I consider what I’ve done. It’s nothing “excessively atrocious” – I haven’t killed anyone, or anything like that. And many people my age have done much worse. But a sin is a sin, and I feel that this has hurt God.

And I wonder why I’m writing about sin on a blog that’s about modesty. But we’re about more than modesty, right? Aren’t we? Like I said last week, isn’t modesty just a reflection of our love for Christ? If that’s true, keeping a modest heart is the same as keeping a pure heart – a heart cleansed from sin.

I feel like there is someone out there, someone who needs to hear this message as much as I do, even as I write it: I don’t know why, but God loves us. For some strange, unknown reason, He loves the filthy, vomit smelling rags that we truly are. Oh how He loves us – to degrees unimaginable. He loves us so much that he sent his kid to die for us. His son! Imagine sending your child to the slaughter just so that you could save a nest of cockroaches from getting exterminated. Now that’s a thought.

He.

Loves.

Us.

Think about that. Ponder It. Remember It.

Unconditional love is such a hard thing for us humans to comprehend and understand… So many times I let God down. I’ve done so many wrongs. Blamed him. Disobeyed him. Sinned. Rebelled. Not trusted him. Yet his love still remains….. It is amazing isn’t it?? Thanks for the reminder. ♥

Thank you for this post, I’ve experienced similar feelings before and it’s a relief to know that other people have it too! Coming to terms with our sinfulness is one thing (and that’s hard enough), but then comes the enormous grace that is God’s love for us. It boggles the mind :)

The first paragraph reminds me very much of my boyfriend’s struggles. He says “I don’t want to sin, but I keep doing it” and I know that he is trying very hard.

God loves us, indeed. But I’d say that we are not condemned to REMAIN “filthy, vomit smelling rags”- in Christ all things are made new! Yes, we still sin, but salvation makes us into new people, who actually CARE if we sin. God cleanses us, makes us whiter than snow, and sets us free. We are no longer “filthy, vomit smelling rags” but beautiful tapestries of God’s grace.

Foy, thanks for the post. It’s what everyone needs to hear!
Not only that they are loved by someone but that they are loved by the I AM! The one who is the almighty creator of the universe knows their thoughts, their hopes, their dreams, their failures, and their triumphs. The one God who knit them together and knows them in all their weakness loves them at a level they cannot comprehend!

    God truly is love.
    Blessings.

Foy, thank you so much for your honesty in this post. I too have recently been more and more amazed at the power and strength of Gods love…so much so that its sticken me speechless at times in the past few weeks and forced me weeping to my knees. Just this morning I bowed in prayer completely dumbfounded at the measure of His grace, when we still committ the same stupid sins.
You know, it is not something that we should be surprised about when we hear it from other Christians. We are all unworthy of such grace…But we are to confess one to another and as Paul said comfort each other with the reminders of God’s love (major paraphrasing there!)
Thank you for comforting and encouraging me today!
    God bless!

It’s something that we all struggle with, Lady Abigail. I can identify with you. It’s part of being human. The amazing part is that someday perfection will be reality! What a day that will be!!

I just went and read your blog post.
