Where is the line that separates modest from immodest? -- We're wondering that too.

Very aptly stated. I think it's entirely possible for a guy to see a girl and think that she is pretty or beautiful without thinking about her in a sexual manner. I think that's something I need to articulate better somewhere-- immodesty could almost be defined as "when I look at you, I want you physically". Modesty could be "when I look at you, I see who you are."

The point is, when a guy sees a girl, what does he see? Does he see someone he believes to be beautiful or trashy? Someone lovely, or someone he wants to use? That's the question for both sexes to ponder.

I agree with Anna about her definition of admiring, but I guess the subtle nuances of word usage can be very subjective. I think you can even admire the way someone looks physically (and I'm not trying to be cheesy here) as a beautiful creation of God.

If I admire a friend's shiny hair or beautiful eyes, or even her trim figure, I'm not lusting after her... it's no different than admiring a beautiful sunset or flower in bloom.

Obviously, a male would have to be much more careful with this, but I still think it's possible even for men to acknowledge a modestly dressed female's beauty without lusting after her sexually.

Teehee, lipstick on a pig makes me think of the whole media firestorm about Obama saying you can't put lipstick on a pig and Palin's camp getting all offended because of her joke about hockey moms, pitbulls, and lipstick.

But that was a digression. My apologies.

Ogling: Lusting with the eyes
Admiring: It is not necessarily lust. I look up to and admire several people. It's the context of this word that is the problem, not the word itself.
Lusting: this says to me more of "heart issue" than anything else.
