The Beauty of a Humble Heart

When I think of modesty, I really think of the heart much quicker than I think of the body.  I’m a firm believer that men and women who desire to live in modesty resonate that all around them.  There’s a certain beauty in a woman who is confident enough in who she is that she doesn’t need to put herself out there to gain attention.  There’s something so attractive in a man whose purpose is to protect the women in his life rather than exploiting them.  It’s something holy and noble, annointed by Heaven.

I started thinking about this on Thanksgiving this year.  I have so much to be thankful for.  I don’t deserve my wonderful husband, the baby I’m carrying, the godly parents God gave me, the wonderful friends in my life.  For some reason, God decided to give me everything I could ever dream of despite the horrible, rebellious attitude I’ve held toward Him.  I was really floored when I actually realized how much I have that I don’t deserve.  I started thinking about all the people in this world who have so much more than me, but aren’t grateful at all.  And there are also so many people who have so much less than me, and yet they’re more thankful than I am.

In Scripture we learn that God loves a “contrite heart.”  That is, a heart that is apologetic and repentant.  It’s a heart that knows its only value is the value God Himself has placed on it.  Without God it is nothing.  It’s when we realize our lack of worth on our own and our infinite worth in the name of Christ that our heart becomes humble.  And the humble heart is what is so beautiful about the modest man or woman.  It is the thing which allows for a man or woman to decide not to be a stumbling block toward others.  It is the thing which helps them rest in Christ – the only one who can give them the power to continue being modest.

I praise God that He let me see my worthlessness apart from him.  I know I’ll cling to him tightly now because of it because with Him, I am anything but worthless.  I am the daughter to a King.  My worth is more vast than the universe – because of His love.

Being thankful has really hit home over the last couple days. Being without power for 36 hours, and being lucky that you’ve had it out for only 36 hours, really strikes a cord. It makes you consider how much we really have. Good post.

    Foys last blog post..Aha!

Thanks, guys. And this is something God’s really shown to me a lot lately, too. I deserve to be laying dead in a ditch somewhere, but God saw fit to restore my marriage and give me a child instead of being destroyed. He is so good!

Thanks so much, Anna! That was beautiful and oh, so true! Something we all need to keep in mind! :)
