Beautiful Girl As if looking good and being confident were not good enough reasons, we here at Is This Modest wanted to provide you with thirteen other reasons why you should be modest.

  1. You like for guys to look you in the eye
  2. Your dad won’t have to tell you to change your clothes as you leave the house
  3. You won’t have to worry about how to exit your car
  4. People in Wal-Mart will call you ma’am/Miss
  5. You’ll never find yourself tugging your skirt down below the knee
  6. No one will know that your underwear doesn’t match
  7. It’s warmer in the winter
  8. No one sees the extra pounds
  9. People don’t ask if you’re looking for “business”
  10. Skirts are easier to get into than tight jeans after Thanksgiving
  11. No one will know you don’t have cute knees
  12. Men can tell you’re a lady, even from a distance (only applies to skirts!)
  13. It’s obvious you’re content being a woman and enjoy femininity

Reblog this post [with Zemanta]

I'm a 35 year old guy married to the most beautiful woman in the world (VirtuousBlonde) for 10 years, and has 4 mostly adorable children-- depending on whether they've had a nap, of course. I'm a software developer by trade, though I like to write on various topics. I got my start in blogging at MInTheGap in 2004 writing about culture, politics and got started talking about modesty on this site just 2 years ago.

    I’m modest, but I don’t want anyone to call me ma’am. :)

  3. Carol says:

    14. People will take you much more seriously rather than seeing you as just another cleavage-showing bimbo.

    A most excellent list!

  4. Alice Audrey says:

Even wearing over sized T-shirts I had trouble getting guys to look me in the eye when I was young. Sometimes the problem is them, not what we wear.

    Awesome List
Something that all us girls/woman should do.. “Being Modest”
You know the problem I have trying to find modest skirts. For and my daughters…. I wish more people would want to dress modest then these clothes makers would make us some modest clothes.
But instead they want to make (I want even go there) (LOL)

    Happy T13
    Thanks for stopping by!

  6. Shannon H. says:

I don’t care if my underthings match :) I go for comfort not style.

  7. Denise says:

When I was a teenager (back in the Stone Age) miniskirts were in, but I remember how uncomfortable I sometimes was wearing them. Thankfully, my daughter likes her skirts a little longer and does not like showing cleavage.

Great list. Thanks for visiting my TT!

skirts are comfier than jeans…but brrrrr

  9. Sue says:

No matter how modest I am I still cringe when people call me ma’am. Makes me feel old! Interesting TT! :)

    Thanks for stopping by mine.

  10. MInTheGap says:

@Sue: Maybe I should have said “Show you more respect”. Seems like women don’t like being called “Ma’am”!

  11. Heather says:

Interesting list – and so true about not wearing clothes that advertise you’re “open for business.”

  12. Anna Grace says:

Yeah, don’t call a woman “Ma’am” unless you have a really charming southern accent.

It’s so funny what everyone thinks of as modest. I find pants to be much more modest than skirts, where I find a lot of other people feel the opposite. I think, for me, it’s because I was always on the jungle gym or sitting indian-style on the floor while I was growing up. Even as an adult, I prefer sitting on the floor to many chairs. For the active woman, wearing a skirt is tough.

  13. Sam Eliza says:

Thank you Anna Grace [12]! I have always thought skirts were cute and feminine, but as I too prefer to sit on the floor Indian style and am more active, I refuse to be hindered by skirts. When I wear them, I find that I have to be careful how I move [they are modest, knee-length]. Jeans allow me freedom of movement [like climbing trees or chasing little children around] and mind so that I don’t have to watch what might be showing. And Miss Anna Grace, I think I have that charming southern accent you were looking for ;-).

  14. yoonamaniac says:

Oh my reason: so that nobody can tell me that I’m too old to wear such things.

  15. After Hours says:

Ha! Looking for business..now that’s funny!

  16. Anna Grace says:

Sam, that’s too funny. I was thinking of a charming southern gentleman, but I suppose the charm works for women, as well.

Yoona, totally great reason to stay modest.

  17. Toni says:

Great list! All very good reasons!

  18. Nicholas says:

All god reasons. Welcome to TT!

  19. Gattina says:

If I would be modest it wouldn’t be me, lol ! Since I don’t work anymore I banned all skirts, dresses etc. from my wardrobe and only wear trousers or Jeans (but chic !) 35 years of skirts, dresses and costumes are enough !

  20. clarence says:

A little bit of modesty goes such a long way.

I don’t have cute knees, I really don’t. They are quite knobbly. Hehe.

  21. Army Mom says:

Good list. One more is that the woman who chooses modesty reflects strong confidence.
    Thanks for visiting my blog.

  22. Miss S. says:

I most definitely relate to number 11 (don’t we all?). And I’m not sure what all the fuss is about–I love being called ma’am! It makes me feel, well, respected! And with skirts on windy days, you still, unfortunately, have to worry about how you exit your car…but that is the exception…not the rule. : )

  23. Danica says:

Great list! I’m fighting this battle with my 8 year old, not that she doesn’t want to be modest, but because it’s hard to find modest clothes for her! GRRRR @ Society!

Danicas last blog post..Thursday Thirteen #72: Working out: The good, the bad, and the grotesque

  24. Anna Grace says:

I totally get that struggle, Danica, after having worked with kids and youth at my church. This is a great time to teach her, but yes, it is a tough battle. Don’t give up. She’s a blessed girl to have a mom who’s passionate about purity.

  25. tommie says:

I have a four year old little girl…you wouldn’t believe some of the hoochy mama clothes I see in her size. It wears me out! I want her to be a little girl for just a bit longer.

  26. Betty says:

All great reasons! And most I can relate to! LOL!

Thanks for visiting my blog! =)

  27. Dana says:

    I like being called ma’am :-)

  28. Sydney says:

More doors are opened for me when dressed modestly and especially when in a skirt. I also love being called ma’am. :D
All of the above are reasons I can relate to. :)

  29. Erin says:

What a great list. The older I get the more I wear skirt, I think. I don’t have cute knees either. :) All of my skirts are way comfier than my pants and more modest too.

  30. ~AnneGirl~ says:

AH HAH!! Here I’ve found 13 reasons! Plus we already have a bunch on the “101 Ideas.” Whew. This means we are that much closer to 101. :)

    • MInTheGap says:

Think we’ll make it? Someone has to come up with something really creative and then it’ll just take off. I’m sure of it.

      • ~AnneGirl~ says:

I think we can. I also think it would help if more people would comment. More than TWENTY DIFFERENT people commented on THIS post. Where did they all go???

        • Lady Abigail says:

I don’t know, but I’m here. I commented with as many ideas I could come up with on the 101 post. I’ve still been thinking, but I didn’t even come up with this many! :)

          #Feb2011NCARating

          • ~AnneGirl~ says:

Yes you did, Abigail. :) I just wonder why more different people don’t comment on that post. I’ve been trying to think of more reasons too, but a certain Rachel listed a LOT and made it difficult for the rest of us! Oh well, that’s how it goes.

        • Missy says:

That’s what I was wondering! There were so many commenters on this post!

And yes, this post helps us get to 101. :)

  31. Erin says:

I’ve been trying to think of more reasons. I think my brain is too tired out for now. But, I will rate this since I’m here.

    #Feb2011NCARating

    • ~AnneGirl~ says:

Come come, Erin. You should be able to think of at least ONE more reason! :) Okay, I’ll stop bothering you and go have some supper. I hope your brain is refreshed by sleep tonight.
