All that Glitters…

I’m a jewelry girl. I adore jewelry and I’m picky about my jewelry. Don’t even bother me with yellow gold, it’s all about the white gold and platinum. Oh, and pearls? I’d rather have diamonds (or rhinestones… I don’t care if my jewelry’s fake as long as it looks real). Opals? They’re okay. Emeralds? Only ’cause they’re my birth stone.
Really, the jewelry I love comes down to this: Is it big (like chandalier earrings) and is it sparkly? The problem with the kind of jewelry I like is why I started wearing it. My husband’s like a cat – he’s drawn to sparkly, dangly things and so I started wearing earrings and necklaces that I knew would attract his attention. The problem I didn’t think about is, does it attract other men’s attention? I’d never thought about that before.
Dangly earrings can draw attention to a woman’s jawline and neck and, obviously, certain necklaces draw attention to her neck and chest. I’m not condeming jewelry by any means – Song of Solomon records the Lover complimenting the Beloved on her gold and silver necklaces.1 Just like with everything else, though, we have to be careful.

As for the girl in the picture, I think her eye makeup is more distracting than her earrings.

Seriously though, it’s hard to pin down that difference because it’s internal to both parties. Don’t worry, I’ll get to that topic once I finish with the child training series.

Rachel, certain types of jewelry are actually scriptural, so I’m not condemning it at all! I’d be so sad if I couldn’t wear jewelry. (My grandma thinks I’m going to hell because I have pierced ears – she and I have been back and forth debating scripture about jewelry since 1995.) And you have great taste in jewelry, by the way.
See, I’m more mesmerized by the fact that her earrings perfectly match her eyes. And I didn’t choose her as an example of an immodest earring – I almost chose another photo as a model, but decided it was way too immodest and so I went with this one.

Photoshop.
But it is a good selection of a photograph, even if it does look retouched!

Oh nice. It would take a lot of talking to God and looking into a mirror to see if jewerly was immodest. Something low, more towards the chest could be considered immodest, since it’s making men look at your chest.

@ParanormalZombiiie: I believe it was Ever After where one of the stepsisters bought a broach that was for the intent purpose of drawing everyone’s gaze at her… um… top. That, to me, makes your point very clearly.
Is wearing a purse strap crossing your body the same problem? I don’t know.
Pearls can really set off a neckline. A good string of pure white cultivated pearls will attract a mans eye believe it or not.
