Where is the line that separates modest from immodest? -- We're wondering that too.

This is a interesting post. I have know idea what my WHR is! I just know that it's not 0.7. :P I have more of a linear figure.

The important part is accepting the way we are made. God has designed us in His image and He doesn't make mistakes!

Good post. We need to make sure that we dress tastefully, but without showing off certain areas in an immodest way. Thanks for posting!

MIn, just Google "empire waist line." JK.

I mentor a 15 year old girl at my church and my husband loaned her the book "Every Man's Battle." He warned her, saying she'll never want to date guys again once she knows how they think. (He and I would both be ok with that... she's 15 and she looks like a 23 year old bombshell.) She said after she read that book, she was bending down to get a pop out of the vending machine and could literally feel the eyes on her backside. She's started to bend at the knees now. Many wardrobe malfunctions can be solved with ladylike posture and behavior. (I'm far from being Miss Manners. Just sayin'.)

As long as the neckline doesn't show cleavage, I'm generally ok with it. However, thinking about it further, one always has to wonder about the "bending over test." Would I see more than I should if she bends over to pick something up?

This, of course, could be fixed by making sure that she comports herself in ladylike fashion (bending at the knees instead of the waist), but I'm not sure how many places actually teach manners and etiquette any more.

By the way, I'm way out of my league when you start using official names for waistlines. Sounds like Rachel wants to join us!

I agree with Anna Grace, I think the v-neck would be more of an issue Of course, that can be easily rectified with a pretty, modest tank underneath.

I feel indifferent about waists (as long as they aren't being bared, that is!). Some women are born curvy and just can't help it. My SIL has the "perfect" hourglass figure, and she constantly dresses in loose t's and pants to draw attention away from it. I think as long as the waist is accented tastefully, it's not that big of a problem.

Another style is the empire-waist, which narrows right below the bustline. Many women, especially those who have given birth (myself included!), like this type of style because it flows out away from the waist and "camoflages" tummy flaws. However, I could see how some of these shirts/dresses could be a problem because they tend to accent the bustline more.

I would think the V neckline would cause a problem way before the belted waistline would.

The vain girl in me wants to say "0.7? How can I find out my WHR?" But I know that's not a godly way to think.

My mom's been on a diet for as far back as I can remember. Trying to get that slim waist. Has she lost any weight at all? No, she's been a constant weight ever since I can remember. Does she need to loes weight? No way.
