Welcome to Is This Modest?

This site is still under construction, but is designed to help you find articles about modesty, help you determine whether an article of clothing is modest, and to help you in your desire to be pure.

This site will also be the future host of the Carnival of Modesty, so stay tuned!

UPDATE!

Are you ready for launch?

We’re getting ready to say “Go!” on Is This Modest, and we’ve got quite a few posts lined up for launch day on Monday, September 1st.  So, stop by on Labor Day (U.S.) and take a look at some of the opening posts!

I'm a 35 year old guy married to the most beautiful woman in the world (VirtuousBlonde) for 10 years, and has 5 mostly adorable children-- depending on whether they've had a nap, of course. I'm a software developer by trade, though I like to write on various topics. I got my start in blogging at MInTheGap in 2004 writing about culture, politics and got started talking about modesty on this site just 3 years ago.

    huzzah!
the theme isn’t half bad… though, for those with a widescreen monitor like mine, it looks a bit small…

  2. Anna Grace says:

Thanks for that feedback, Andy! :)

  3. LDP says:

I think its an average theme.

  4. Marshmallow says:

    Oooh theme!
Yeh, the woman on top is sorta………but of course I wouldn’t have noticed if you hadn’t mentioned it in the email. :D

  5. Anna Grace says:

How can we make it stellar instead of average, LDP?

And, Marshmallow, is it “sorta…..” enough for us to need to change it around?”

Thanks to you both for the feedback.

  6. Katie says:

Hey! I found this place. and I think it looks good. The girl on the top is my favorite I think… and the coloring elsewhere is nice and simple…. the only thing that is hard to read is the black on dark gray.

  7. Cami says:

The theme is wonderful! I personally love it, though Orange highlights somewhere would really make it pop, you know?

But as for the woman at the top, I personally [from what I can see] do not think it is modest because there is no shirt. Though, if a shirt were visible, it would be much better.

  8. Aisling says:

Ack! I never thought of that Cami!

  9. andy.minor says:

huh… I never thought of that either.
    More thoughts:
I think the banner makes the site a bit top-heavy.
If the top and bottom were trimmed down it would help with that and the “seemingly shirtless” issue as well.

  10. Anna Grace says:

You guys are awesome – keep good feedback coming. We can always improve.

You taking notes on all this, MIn?

  11. Rebecca says:

I’m excited about the launch as well.

About the model above: as a woman, I would never think anything of that picture, but my husband would quickly note that she’s naked.

  12. Anna Grace says:

Well, she’s not necessarily naked. (Devil’s Advocate, here I come…) Who says she’s not wearing a ballgown or something?

  13. Aisling says:

Yeah, that was the first thing that went through my mind. She wearing one of those strapless thingamabobs.

But then I’m also female, soo….

But in the men’s best interest shall we find another equally beautiful mascot or just crop it?

  14. Rebecca says:

In a woman’s imagination, she’s wearing a ball gown. In a man’s mind: you don’t see clothes, so there are none. Men are very visual.

  15. Anna Grace says:

Yeah, you’re right, Rebecca. We really should crop the picture or find a new one, I suppose.

MIn? Hey, MIn? You’re the HTML guru – I vote you do it. :D

  16. Abigail Joy says:

Wow! I made it to the very last page! I have commented on everything that I had anything at all to say about! Guess it’s time to go start again with the newer articles… :)

Wow! Commenting up a storm! You are on a roll Abigail Joy, er, Lady Abigail. Are you the same person or what?

      #Feb2011NCARating

      • Lady Abigail says:

Ah, yes, I was going to mention that. Wouldn’t want to be deceptive. I am Lady Abigail when I’m signed into the forum and Abigail Joy when I’m not. I didn’t realize at first that it counted them separately, but Mln said that as long as it’s the same e-mail address I’m ok. :)

        • ~AnneGirl~ says:

Okay, I understand. It’s just makes it more confusing for the rest of us to know how many points you really have. :p I’m really looking forward to when MIn reveals the current scores. It’s going to be so interesting. Don’t you think so? :)

          • Lady Abigail says:

It makes it confusing to me too! :) I have to keep adding it up. Once I figured it out I was going to make sure I signed into the forum every time I commented, but it’s a hassle to have to go to the forum, sign in and then go back to the articles to comment…especially with our slow computers. I’m automatically signed in on my own account, but that’s just on one computer.

          • ~AnneGirl~ says:

Well maybe you’ll get tired of adding it up. *crosses fingers* No wonder you can comment so much if you are using more than one computer! *sigh* Oh well, I guess if you find an advantage you might as well use it.

          • Erin says:

It is good to know that there is one person now. Not two. The two names were confusing at first. I must be in third place with my commenting. Oh well, it has been fun to try to be in the lead. :) Perhaps another time I will have more time to be on here commenting. :(

  17. Erin says:

I can’t believe you people are way out in front of me. I will try to catch up. I think this is going to get harder. I wish I new how many points I had to see how far behind I am.

    • ~AnneGirl~ says:

I agree, Erin. I wish I knew how many points I had too. Truth is, I think I need to be doing some catching up as well–Abigail is ahead of me again. At least if my calculations are right. *sigh* This is getting harder.
